Cheers. Sometimes I regret starting it but I know it'll look better than before which is what makes me carry on.redcar wrote:Nice work. Will look really cool when finished

Will the car be getting a full respray?
Also, what did you do with the rest of the battery tray?
Yes, full respray including the engine bay, boot and floor inside. The rest of the battery tray is sat in the car. They said there wasn't anypoint replacing non rusty parts as it opens up seams which can cause extra rust traps. Of any interest to you?

Oh yes, that makes sense.kitch wrote:Yes, full respray including the engine bay, boot and floor inside. The rest of the battery tray is sat in the car. They said there wasn't anypoint replacing non rusty parts as it opens up seams which can cause extra rust traps. Of any interest to you?
I was wandering if you could get some pics from different angles of the battery tray as i'd be interested to see what it consists of.
Sorry for the bother!
Cheers mate.
The average 2 door does naturally look very good...but your 4 door looks absolutely epic. It looks really really cool. Have got a soft spot for badass looking 4 doorskitch wrote:Haha, I like 2doors more but this is a special 4 door to me. Cheers, hope it's worth it.
Yeah I'll get some photos of it up bud, I should be picking it up this weekend so if I remember I'll do it then
Bit of an update. Got my turd back from the welders recently, my brothers made a good start on the body work
. I ordered 2 new wings today for the nice price of £350
but they're on back order so I don't know when BMW will have them in

The foot wells

Some of the rear inner arch where alot rot out and of the bit by the breather tank

And a few general ones of the car

The bodyshop have sealed up all the metal that they put in. I've put some polyurethane sealer in the arch lips to stop mud and crap collecting and rotting them out which is what happened before. I've waxoyled inside the sill and rear arches. I'll give them another going over when I do the inner arches etc but I'm going to wait until it's painted before I do that. I've also sanded and primiered the front of the floor and that'll be painted with the rest of the car.

Yeah, as soon as the wings arrive it'll be done. It depends what my brother says but I'm guessing it wont matter if it's all primered bar the wings and then do them when they turn up and paint it all in one go. I didn't really think about getting 2nd hand wings. I just thought atleast with brand new ones they'll be 100%. To be fair I get a bit carried away now and then when buying things haha.

Yeah I'm staying the same colour. I really like it and it also keeps it origional. I know alot of the car isn't origional but I like to keep somethings lol.

doing a good job mate! 4 doors for the win!!
a lot of work there mate, looking good, mines having similar work
just an observation, but why did you not scrape back the sound deadedning from the front floor pans to look for any issues and then give a better finish one re done ? in mine i removed it all, and there was some surface rust about just startting on the floor metal under the deadening, and also on the "join lip" that goes across the front there, there was some rust starting and glad i found it, under that deadening its sort of hexagonal honeycomb effect and moisure can get trapped/chanel under it
would be a shame to have missed anything under there after going trhough all that work, and you can buy new deadening isnt expensive

I did chisel it all off. I know what you mean though, it looks like I haven't. If you look closely on the bottom right of that photo you can see the honeycombe bits. There was a bit of surface rust but nothing mojor. Cheers for the concern though

Awesome man this will be a great car when finished. Always good to have all these photos to add to your service history.
Keep up the great work.
Keep up the great work.
Popped upto the body shop today. the car is looking really good. Just need the rear doors and boot to be painted and put back on the car and then it can come home. Need to pick the skirts and bumpers up from the blasters tomorrow ready for primer and paint too. I can't wait to get it back on the road, it's been over a year since I last drove it.

Awesome!
Dude it's looking epic! I'd pop down south this weekend if I wasn't working and grab some pics of it in the booth!

Im working the next few weekends dude! I guess i've got the monday off... we shall see!

mate i applaud you, amazing work on an already great looking car
i also own a 4 door, i do like 2 door e30's but just like yourself my 4 door is special to me.! shame that most on an e30 dedicated site shun them, quite sad of them really
now here's the thing, i have already converted mine to run m52 power so thats done, but ive been thinking of a respray lately as winter approaches. a good mate is willing to do a full shell respray for a grand, which i thought very reasonable.
this car, and thread is inspiring me to go ahead with it. nice to see someone else with the same love for their 4 door as myself
looking forward to updates
