Thing is, these breakers sit on my drive. I look at them at least twice a day when i'm off and back from work. Then if they are not taxed they have to be shuffed about all the time. Give them a round out round the block to make sure nothing is falling off, tyres going flat etc. This is the only particular one which has grown on me, even if trevor did poke holes in it!

Interior lights not coming on when the doors open? E/W not working either with the doors open? Then its this little chappy. I've swapped both sides out as neither was working. So 1 little job jobbied.

Central locking is fully working and the car is all on 1 key. which is rare in itself. Anyhow, this like many e30s didn't lock the central locking without turning the barrel flat. IE deadlocked. Well from new you should be able to turn the lock left and the central activates straight away. Then if you want to deadlock you keep turning the key, get me? Well you can see the mirco switch tab has bent, then i've "bent it a little more" and it broke

Spare parts bin found another, i find now that you need to bend the tab out a bit more and play with it to get it to work again properly.

lube up the lock, i think maybe over the years that the tab on the back of the barrel wears out a bit hence the central and deadlock not working as it should. So really its a bit of patience and p!ssing about bending the tab and putting it together and apart until its all right. Which it is now and smooth operating. Some grease on the hinges and latches mean nice free swinging doors

Amazing what a wash does! and a little back to black as such. The tyres keep going flat and the spare was flat. So i've had the beads re sealed on 3 of them and the spare had 2 tiny pin puncture holes in it so had them done. Loads more odds and sods to do!

After some TLC your £250 investment seems even better!!

100k and it would have been a £2000 car to the right punter. 166k is going to get the Billies in a froth. Shame as we know mileage means bugger all, but low miles is where the coin is.
Still has to be 1500 quid though....?

I would t-cut the bitch, throw on a tech 1 kit and drive the life out of it.
Great car, these bargains never come up for sale in NI.

Nice find, love a good restoration thread! I'm a budding restorer with neither the facilities or cash so I just live out my wants through reading these threads. Plus it's going to be properly sorted as Barry is doing it!

Trouble is Andy, had it been 100k or sub, it wouldn't have been 250 quid. Plus at least this is definately what the mileage is. Theres no year missing here, year missing there. It is what it is and the mileage is deffo correct. Many a "100k" car won't be. That in itself is worth having I reckon.Andyboy wrote:Ouch.Simon13 wrote:166,000Andyboy wrote:What sort of leg has she done?![]()

Not that I want to pre empt the price this will be (thats Si's call) but I'd like to think this'll be a 1500 quid car. He's definately putting the hours in on it.
It was me that said to Si to start this thread. When it goes up for sale, there will be nothing that the potential buyer won't know about. This thread should / could potentially sell it.

/\ replace the switch pictured
Good day

Hanging dashboard. i'm on the lookout for a goodun people. PM with details please

this is the earth for the light on the selector arm. i want it to work, so would running a new earth somewhere else be the best answer? i shall have to try and see.

These are the OBC bulbs which let go and replacement from BMW is now £60+VAT which is bloody silly money.

So i've soldered in these new bulbs, they are tiny but.......

We are in business
cost? 0 just my time

Nice gaskets
not the worst but not good either, i've changed the whole system today as the scorpion isnt quite what i think people who want a standard 325i auto want these days. Doesn't suit the car imo

Came off easily

No broken studs either, now this car had a headgasket done @ a BMW main dealer in 2007. Look no oil leak from the front corner of the gasket like they ALL do! Good advert to me to use a genuine BMW one on my 2 door i think.

Minor clean up and in with the studs

Nice nuts

Much better!

All on and it fitted quite well! i didn't have to try and bend much. Much to my surprise it sounds pretty good, almost like a genuine system dare i say it. Straight exit too

Passenger wing needs some treatment but its just surface rust. This is the scuttle side and the tricky repair to get loocking right

Whole and you guessed it there was a mudflap hiding it!

after a good poke and a bit of a clean up. I think the screen will have to come out and the dash stays out until this is sorted.

/\ dito. Clock is ticking. Well we can always do a wiki article for sorting the OBC bulb issue.
i torqued the manifold nuts today in true homo style, bentley told me 22-25NM is the kiddy. So i did 23.5Nm
More fun in the morning 2moro i hope. Also hoping to win a trinket on ebay for the cause!

That scuttle is a fairly easy repair, no need to take the screen out. Trim the rust back with a dremel and get your dub freak mate to tack (tak!) a plate in, skim of filler, primed and a zinnober rattle can job jobbed. Obviously some paedo style waxoil on the back of the repair and its sorted.
Screen out , drilling spot welds and lead loading is not the route you want to be taking with this turd !
PS, get that zaust and the tech one boot spoiler served, that little lot should net nigh on £300 and buy plenty of P40
PPS, get an ebay ad up with a link to a youtube vid of the WORKING HLWW , some deviant may well pay nigh on £200 for that lot and it definately won't add zip all to the price of the car.
At this rate the car will be tidy and FREE !

bit of a wee strip down and clean up in the bay,

bits ready to go back on, but the 10mm bolt in the upper timing cover f**king snapped. So my old man is sorting that out for me. As its where the metal pipe that runs across the front of the engine is held on.
Lots more going on but until saturday i can't get at it again. Day light is a premium thing this time of year!

/\ thats a load of b0ll0cks bid up i expect! I take it by your lack of replys Adit you don't want my alpina spoiler
i've found a dash and RHR kit thanks
Anyhow yesterday was another move in the right direction and nearly the end of the mechanics i'm going to do to this

block was surprisingly clean or lack of rust like they can after this age and milege. Dare i say better than my 2door one! i could set the silver on the back of the core plugs! So it shows what regular coolant changes can do

All belted and tensioned, timed and cranked over and up. All the nuts are horrid and rusty

noice, someone lose the bolts for the crank pulley? cuts down some longuns mush.
replaced with proper ones!

pipes all cleaned up. This car had a headgasket done @ a BMW maindealer in 2007. But the pipes still had a bit of mayo in them and felt a bit too squidgy for my liking. So i've binned them and fitted this lot i had in "stock" This is part of the reason i've stripped it so far down to try and wash out any remaining mayo as the dealer obviously didn't bother much.
We want nice BLUE coolant flowing round lol

Mr wippy engine mount, its like a saggy turd. Both sides. The gearbox mounts were hanging as usual

New vS old. I should get a pic of the box mounts as they were comical and had both split in half.

Manky rusty servo?

I knew this would come in handy one day. And that day was sat! Its a good job i did the engine mounts as you can't get the servo out other wise it hits the inlet. So with the donk jacked up on the sump gives you the clearance. Much nicer, whilst i was here the old skanky brakefluid was flushed through and some fresh ATE super blue fitted for that nice pedal feel. Not without drama, ALWAYS fit the rubber caps on the bleed nipples. The drivers front didn't and i heated it with a blow torch and the c**t still snapped. I've again got a good caliper spare so that went on and a clean up waxoil on the metal brake lines in the arches. to keep the MOT man away
The rear lines T piece are all very good condition due to being replaced in the last couple of years.
So no much left now really. Refit the rad bleed the system up and an oil change/filter and fit the new TCA bushes and on to the bodywork. I picked up a nice dash today thanks to Glenn for that so the inside can go back together too.
