I've heard of people using a bolt welded in to replace the peg, but you have to use the exact correct size and length.

£150 does sound a bit steep for those parts. An ECU normally sells for £10-40 on here or E-bay, and a frontal section of loom won't cost alot. If you already have a 1.3 engine loom, why would you need one though?

I'd bite the bullet and convert to Motronic 1.3, because it gives you more tuning options, and is probably far easier than taking the gearbox out! Unless, of course, you are a fastidious OEM homo.

I have an old engine complete with wiring harness which terminates at a plug under the inlet manifold. I need the other part of the loom - which connects the ecu to this.

taking the gearbox out is easier and quicker to do than converting to 1.3.

Also means you need to have the later ECU mapped to work with the 2.7.

Why do you want to change to a MAF and later motronic on a rare car such as an Alpina?

What are you planning to do to the 2.7? Are you changing the cam?

I dont see the point of changing to the later motronic. Its not like its got L-Jetronic. Even then should be original on a Alpina.

I have just converted an 85, H23 which is stroked to 2.5 to Motronic 1.3 it's not a simple task but this car was in complete bits and the jetronic /car loom was a right mess so I had a head start!

I agree with Barry change the box and keep the 2.7 on it's original ecu, I have seen too many 2.7's that have been overfuelled and wrecked by re-maps/aftermarket different chips ect

Alpina spent a lot of time and effort getting it right and it works, the test of time has proven this over 20 years later it's still gracing the roads?
you won't get anymore out of this engine than you already have, Alpina stretched it to it's safe limits,

You need to find anyone breaking a manual 325i built before sept '87.

As speedtouch said, the peg will prob be sitting in the bell housing, just be careful and keep an eye out when separating the box from the engine.

loom swap would give better map resolution though, and will gain torque as a result.

Gen UK spec Alpina chip has a unique checksum, I have MY C2 2.7 ( 173 ECU code, ' sept 87 facelift ) ECU here and will happily duplicate the Chip for you should you wish to go that route I will need proof its pukka engine/head combo 1st though, to be safe.

24 pin Eprom in 28 pin socket is common and no bodge, there are two versions of the 073 , 24 ad 28 pin, plus 95% repaired ECU's have has a 28 pin socket fitted @ that time it seems ( OEM reman/ Lucas/BBA certainly did )

all early flywheels will suffer the same fate eventually, the TDC pin WILL go walkies , trust me I know

the early ECU's sh!t themselves also as said. The later 1.3 system is very very reliable

Right - Ive made a decision, and im gonna convert to 1.3! Its gonna be best in the long term, as i want to get the most out of the fresh 2.7 once time and funds will allow for its rebuild.
I will keep all the old loom/ecu/etc.. and that way should i get any twangs of guilt in later years the car can be put back to original.

I am really pleased with how original this car is. Block and Head and all the Bilsteins with original alpina numbers on, and here is some pics of its History:





After 4 years its managed to wreck its front spoiler and gathered quite a few scratches...........

So far ive fitted my 13 button obc, headlamp w/w and the Aircon setup, now im waiting on the 1.3 loom arriving and i can get it moving under its owm steam again! I just wish i was a bit better at taking pictures as they never seem to come out right.
Hopefully when the car is driving it can be moved outside for some daylight shots.

Well time to update this:

Car is now painted, apart from all the Spoilers / Skirts and Mirrors. I still have the thankless job of preparing these for the sprayer.
I have finished the 1.3 conversion and its all running / driving fine. A big thanks to all the guys who posted info on doing this conversion on here.
Whilst doing the conversion I also fitted the Alpina 6 branch manifold and s/steel system.





I got my Aircon/ HLWW / 13 button OBC fitted along with an original Blaupuntk from the era, and also managed to get a mint window circuit breaker switch to replace the faded original. So all looks nice:



I have managed to get my drivers seat repaired locally, as it had the usual worn bolsters, and have treated the whole interior to a dymix dye clean and feed.
Also fitted the rear head rests:




So the car now sits on eibach lowering springs, but im unhappy with its ”˜stance’.
I feel it’s too high at the rear still. With it being a chromie with its high rear arches and lack of rear valance it makes matters worse.



Can anyone recommend a rear spring that would give a drop of 15-20 mm more than the eibachs I currently have?

I got the radiator from a breaker that i took the air-con out of. I thought all air-con rads looked like that?

Air con rads are deeper than stock, tropical are deeper and wider! and thats wiiiiiiiide. Its all good.

I've fragged 3 chrome bumper 325i's with aircon now and all had the tropical rad.
Must be a pre facelift with aircon thing...?

Well Ive made a bit of progress over the last while.
The paint shop has all my spoilers / mirrors and skirts that i put into primer for them, and should be ready for me to collect soon. Then i can do the final fit up and get an MOT booked!
I managed to get the rear of the car sitting lower with a different set of springs. They were -60mm, which has the car sitting nice and level:

I also managed to get a decent set of tailpipes welded onto the stainless exhaust i picked up second hand.

And heres how it looks now - im very happy with it, its as close as i can get it to the original ALPINA/Boysen look, and it sounds superb!


When i bought the car i was told the original LSD was scrap, so i sourced a 3.91 ratio lsd, and had it rebuilt with 40% lock up.
Here is a few shots of the old diff - Scrap is an understatement...


New diff ready to go in:

So looking forward to getting the spoilers etc fitted and giving it a good final detail then take some decent pics.

I've had this taxed since the start of this month and done around 500 miles in it. So finally got round to taking some pictures:











Here she is sitting beside my B3S. It make the e46 look so overweight....



It gets ALOT of attention on the road, which is hard getting used to, but in general its been excellent driving it day to day.
Only gripes are rubbish brakes compared to the e46, and an exhaust which is too loud at high rpm.
Its all still work in progress as i need to rebuild the 2.7 lump as it currently sits in my garage:

For now though im happy enough to drive it and enjoy it!!
