the interior is good
just the carpet is wet so binned it
its bin sitting for so long so most of the shell is solid. not had it running yet but thats down to the fuel is rotten.
so i reckon maybe a second hand fuel tank, i think the pump has packed it not sure yet got to test it on fri. And some fresh fuel and i reckon she will fire up.
as for the sunroof no rust eitha ! inner wings spotless, sills spotless, outer arches spotless, rear pockets spotless rear floor pan spotless its just as o know of the front floor pans both of them
on side of the windscreen has gone
battery tray area has started to go
and thats all i can see so far
so plan is to get the floor pans done and the battery tray done
fresh brakes and fluid, new tyres and wheels i already have, then mot her to see what else needs to be done
thats way i can go from somewhere

Couldn't you use some fuel tank sealer rather than replacing the tank?

I had to do similar floorpan repairs on a Tech 2 Sport:

Possibly, though they are tricky to fit as I gather it helps to remove the whole rear subframe.

What's the scuttle panel like (below the windscreen)? You can clearly see on the passenger side where the rust has been attacking the bulkhead, which isn't good.
Nice inner arches though

It's quite tricky to repair the floorpans, and to fix the scuttle properly is a windscreen-out job.
New scuttle panels are available from BMW.
Whether it's worth repairing depends on whether you can do the work yourself and have the time to do it, or can find someone to do it for reasonable money.
I'd focus on getting the engine running, which will help you decide whether it's worth the effort and expense...

so i have been looking onto restoring this one and it is gonna need some fair welding.
so what sheet metal will i need ? i have looked into welding machines and my friend has a welder similar to this one http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... _500wt_949
would this be good enough for the job ?.
also as for the floor pans to be welded, i gather it would be best to weld from underneath rather than inside ? if so i have some high ramps but dont like the idea of welding lying on the floor..
so what would it involving making a spig ? are they hard to make ?
thanks dom

Yes, that MIG would definitely be up to the job. I use offcuts from a sheet metal fabrication firm close to Canterbury - they dump them in a skip outside. Unless ready-made panels are available, of course.
You'll probably find you need to do it from both inside and underneath.
Not sure about making a spit/roller though obviously it would make life easier.
