little update........... was originally gonna keep the original rear panel but decided it had to go as most e30 pickups ive seen all keep the original rear panel and original lights and i wanted mine to be different so...............

ive cut out the rear panel, chopped up the rear lights. , i was gonna remount the bumper lower down as in one of the photos but have now decided to debumper the rear.

the section of rear lights ive kept will now be the stop and tail lights and i will mount indicators in the lower panel where the bumper mounts used to be

progress and updates have been dire due to the winter weather and lack of facilities with light and power! however as of 1st of feb im renting a unit with a mate of mine and progress should then be swift, ive aquired an M20B25 from a mate of mine and that will be transplanted into the wagon.

Now trying to decide what colour to paint it!

How are you going to get it through a SVA (or IVA now I think) test so you can insure it and drive it on the road? I thought monocoque cars were impossibly expensive to make legal, although I guess as yours is not yet on a Q plate you haven't done that.

Does look  though.

well few minor updates, got shot of the BBS and now have the deep dished wheels shown below, when i got them they were painted 100% black so ive started to paint stripper and polish the dish. also fitted a tailgate net although in the future i do intend to make a proper drop down tailgate.

Rear bulkhead is ready to be welded in and i have a mk1 vw caddy rear window to fit into into it

You should chop the roof by a few inches on that too, just a little, give it that grunty look without the length of a full roof... Would look sweet. Get someone to photoshop a chop and see... :D

The build looks to be going well, but I'm still really interested in what process you are going to follow to get it registered, insured and on the road.

Hmm I sense that I am being ignored so I'll ask once more and will then just assume the worst... have you been able to get the DVLA to update your V5 to show the change in class of your vehicle and been able to get it insured?

Matto matto matto you worry too much, Ive spoke to2 MOT stations about this and as long as its still used as PLG (private light goods) and the Gross payload that will be carried is not going to be changed its fine. it was never built with the intention of carrying loads, the most it will ever have in the back is two mountain bikes.

its the whole classification change that would bring in the issues. The classification of useage is not being changed.

ive had to look into all this as i have a Covin Porsche 911 replica that im also building and getting it properly reg'd and road legal is a nightmare

But you've made a major modification to the monocoque so surely that puts it right into biva territory?

Anyway I'm not worried, I've just been really interested in (and following) how all the changes to what you can get away with in terms of modifications were effecting people when building projects like these, and this really appears to be one that would have to jump through all the hoops (so to speak) before being taken on the road. But if you are confident that it's all going to be fine then I guess that's all that matters, but I really would reccommend reading through some of these links.
