Ideally you wait for a large Soviet empire to collapse and buy it on the cheap when it sells all it's old mothballed but fully functional tanks held in reserve. The tank was in good condition when it came over to UK, bought for £400 in 1992. Was built in the late 40s I think - no idea if it fought in WWII or not, but I'm guessing not as it's a variant of the T34 that wasn't built till at least 1944.

It was disarmed when it came over - by sticking a block of wood down the barrel - to rearm it.... take the block out. But Morrissons is out of 50 yr old Russian shells...

My dad's friend who's well into his tanks bought it, but he lived in a council house and I'm not sure they were very chuffed with the idea of it being on the drive, so he asked my dad if he could leave it at the farm for 6 weeks before he moved it to restore it fully - 16 years later... rusted as hell now, still starts with outside power and a lot of easy start (it's so so so so loud - 16 or 32l engine? - can't remember), but had no work done on it apart from us painting it every so often. Can still turn the turret and aim the gun manually (back up system in case tank lost electrical power) had a fun couple of times scaring approaching cars when I was a kid and people weren't used to it being there so it was a surprise for them.

Fond of it, but doubt it will ever get this restoration - haven't seen my dad's mate in 10 years or so...

That is so cool. I would have loved a tank as a plaything as a kid.

Would have thought the vast majority of t34's would have been scrapped or sold onto a subsidiary of the USSR long before they collapsed, bearing in mind that it was built in 44 and vastly out of date come the end of the 50's.

So, my day today... I've hunted this car down over the last 5 years, paid for her yesterday, and going down to Watford Gap to collect her and drive her back home up the M1. If anyone wants to come and wave they can :)

These photos are 12 years old

Sold her 9 years ago and regretted it every day since. So very excited! Can't believe I found her!

Will post pics when I get her back home tonight! She's lost her Mtec 1 kit (which wasn't original) but has been very well looked after and Mtec1 kit associated rust has been sorted.

Well that was a result :thumb: well done getting it back.

Parked mine up 20 years ago but was lucky enough to have room to store it. Nearly sold it a couple of times and would kill me now if I had.

Glad you got the log-in sorted

So... drove her home from London to the Pennines in West Yorkshire last night. Didn't miss a beat. Was gorgeous to drive. Huge change from the EV which is now my daly (kia e-niro). So gorgeous to be back driving something real.

Life of good maintenance and gradual improvement awaits. Has had a new gearbox and engine. Converted to manual - whoop!
Mtec1 gear knob which lights up!!

New roof.
New exhaust.

Lots of big ticket items, but lots of niggles and electrical gremlins to hunt down. Found an amazing garage which knows and likes E30s, and doing some work on her myself.

Thrilled and happy to be back.

Can't beat that feeling of jumping back into an E30 after a bit of an absence..

Must be weird jumping back into your old one! Would feel like you met up with a mate you haven't seen in a while!

Looking forward to more pics / progress..

And I'm my opinion get a kit back on it asap mate 😎 I am biased in that department though 😂
