How many nights were spent on ebay to track that little lot down.
I'll be interested in the 500 if you don't wanna use it?
She certainly is looking good. Im gunna stand mine up for winter, then next year treat her to a full respray. Im doing body repair at college and one of last years students left a bonnet there. Iv spoken to my tutor and he said to bring my car in match up the colour and we'll paint them over the next half term
The lad has gone through the trouble of rubbing it all down and primering it. Im gunna invest in another boot and spoiler and sort them out to.

Very origional, although I would put modern speakers in the old casings. I know how you like to pump out the tunes
Looking good mate.

Selling?! This car is going to the grave with me!Jhonno wrote:There's oem homo and then there's Barry..
Decent speakers in the pods, and keep the headunit for shows/selling
Well actually my son already has his eyes on it and he's only 2!
I have a few more OEM touches to come.
Its all in the details!
I just gave away the original Blaupunkt head unit from my IS a few weeks ago, bugger.
Ebay is your friend Dan.
Time for another update.
Air con is one option that i always wanted for the sport and having a black car with black leather isn't funny in the summer! The last peice of the air con jigsaw puzzle turned up today, one of the pipes. Ah the pipes! I have sold three Air con kits now and them along with every other A/C kit has had pipes that have lost the passivated gold/brass colour and would look out of place in a mint OEM engine bay, not something i want for my sport so i decided to replace all four pipes with new ones while i could still get them as more and more things seem to be going NLA. To stop the pipes loosing the finnish like all the others i will give the metal parts a coat of matt laquer to prevent them from oxidising.

Some of you will be familier with this, its the A/C conversion kit to convert from R12 to R134a gas and it comprises of a new dryer/reciever, 2 valves, O-rings and a new pressure sensor.

New heater box gaskets as the 20 year old ones just crumble do dust!

New condensor and a VERY lucky find, a brand new old stock genuine BMW compressor which i won on ebay for a steal!

Another bonus was the car i broke for for the A/C also had regulated temperature control, ie climate control which is a rare option on E30's! The system functions much like any other climate sytsem in that it has a cabin temp sensor (the black round thing next to the temp knob) and instead of a cable operating a flap, it has an electronic switch and module which operates the electric heater valve, you can see the module in the pics below. I also ordered a a new foil as the original had faded.

Cant wait to chuck it all in!

Looks great Barry, wish I could have afforded new pipes when I did mine, very shiny!
I saw that compressor on ebay also, was a bargain you got!
I don't know if you have one yet but I bought my A/C radiator from ECP and the quality is great.

Condensor and radiator are two different things as im sure you know. A/C radiators are much deeper and have an area on the offside to screw in the thermostat to regulate the fan speed.
Lucky with the A/C climate control also, they never come up for sale!

Oh you mean the coolant rad specific of A/C cars! I thought when you said A/C rad you were refering to the condensor, a common mistake people make.bmwe30mtech wrote:Condensor and radiator are two different things as im sure you know. I will be getting a genuine BMW tropical spec rad with the fan speed therostat hole.

Barry you are such an OEM homo. I love it.
Air con is brilliant in winter. Say goodbye to misted up windows in seconds, even with a cold engine. It is so underestimated in anything other than the boiling hot summer day(yes, that is singular). Plus, I doubt it really strains my engine(or an m20) to make that much difference to fuel economy. Most people ruin the aero of a car by opening a window, potentially costing more money than having the air con on!

Ha ha yes!
There is a reason for it though.

Barry
nice selection of new goodies there
Any chance you could PM me the numbers for all the parts, i have the same idea as you, nice new pipes in the bay would look just right and in keeping with the rest of a nice clean bay, numbers for pipes, heater gaskets, etc you have just bought, would be a real help
PS, the compresser in the air con kit you sold me came up like brand new, even the mounting bracket is still a nice shiny gold colour, i'll take a pick and post it up

New aircon pipes
I bet they cost more than that alpenis spoiler
The first one (solid) is easy, its the next three that make you cry into your wallet
I settled for sandblasting and satin black
Looks like a Nissens condenser? Make sure you get some waxoil around the frame as the last one I removed from my car went rusty, it was on the car 18 months, new when fitted

Dan, yes the 4 pipes and R134a conversion kit cost more than the spoiler!
I cant remeber the make of the condensor but it will be getting some wax oil. All of the old ones i have removed from cars i have broken have corroded arround the bottom.

F*ck me Barry. You out on the rob in the evenings?
this car is going to be the nuts. Still not sure on the front spoiler though. Sorry mate. I love a 'pina like all the rest but I reckon a mint sport with ALL the trinkets is the way forward here.

just caught up with this thread, spent god knows how long just reading it all, and im speechless, dont know if its out of jealousy or just shocked....
Barry hats off to you mate, i thought i was bad about being all OEM, but you've gone to another level. If i had your knowledge/car ; ), finance etc pretty sure i would have done the same too...
Just need to find that 1 car, like yours, and you know which one it is...... until then have to stick with what ive got
Well done mate...

I'm sure a nice one will turn up soon Shakeel. That glacia blue on on PH looks good.
I have an Alpina rear spoiler on order, delivery time unknown!oakey wrote:Awesome stuff as usual Barry![]()
You going to just fit the front spoiler and leave the rest of it tech2 or are you going for the Alpenis bootlid spoiler too?
I bloody well should be!Ric_Vezza wrote:You are my hero Barry............
Wow. Just read this thread from start to finish.
Absolutely amazing work. Attention to detail is mindblowing.
Personally wouldn't go with the 'pina stripes though. Leave it at the spoilers as stripes is overkill on a sport imho.

You don't win friends with salad.
Thanks for the kind words Bump.
I'm not going with the stipes, as you say it would be overkill although i do think they look cool!

Just a little update.
I picked up a mint shafer (slate grey) carpet from Theo325 to replace my light grey one, will post some pics when its been wet vac'd.
Also as some of you may know, Steve (e30topless) bought my black sport leather seats as i'm replacing them with recaro highbacks, which will be retrimmed.
Just need a bit of spare time to start the A/C retrofit.
