Thank f**k you've decided to keep the old beast!! This car has something about it- get it sorted!! 8)
Im on it!

It was touch and go, insurance is expensive when you list all the mods and add into the mix keeping it garaged which for a car I hardly use adds up to quite an expensive toy when money is getting tighter for all of us.

The hearts says keep it so here we are, will be getting it taxed again the start of April and get started with the rusty bits and paint.
Cant wait........... :D

Yeah I know what you mean- mine has been off the road for a loooong time and it's still an expensive toy even when not being used at all!! But like you, plans underway for a revival.

Looking forward to YUC updates... 8)

Well, went to pick up the repaired 8j yesterday. Its nice and straight but seem to have painted it metalic black, not even close to the Anthracite it should be! :x :x

Maybe I should have left a centre cap with them for reference but then again they had the rest of the wheel to get a colour match from.

So its getting painted again and picking it up Wednesday, hope they done f#ck it up again!

One this is sorted I can get it taxed and crack on with the rest of the list, getting quite excited about driving it again!

Thanks dude :D

Small update, Im after a rust free drivers door if anyone local has one? Long shot I know!
Possibly driver side front wing rust free too.

Also any good local welders in Surrey area? The ones Ive used before are either un reliable or too busy :?
Small patch needed in the front inner wing needs to be sorted before I tackle the surface rust on the chassis leg.

The original Alpina front spoiler is un repairable after my little bump xmas eve, the rep one I have has never fitted that well but will try and mod it. If not plan B is needed!

Some pictures of the chassis leg and inner wing i took quickly when I was last at the garage, quite crusty in there but savable?

There seems to be a hole appearing under the washer bottle at the seam to the chassis leg, Im guess its BTB off, clean up the whole area up scrape all the sh#t away, remove seam sealer and see how bad it is.

What do we think guys?

I think you will be upset when you poke that seam on the inner wing :(

Top of the chassis leg is more than surface rust mate, if its just for MOT purposes wire wheel in drill to clean the scabs and then some hammerite to tart it up a bit.
The inner wing will need a welder waved at it though

Thought that might be the case Dan :(

Id like to do a long term fix on this but wondering whats involved before I start, not so worried about the inner wing welding more the chassis leg. Dont fancy replacing it, major ball ache!
Do you think its terminal then Dan?

Need to decide where I am going with this shell before I go too much further.

No rust in the roof, scutle, bulkhead or archs but the jacking points are gonna need some attention in in 2 or 3 years and the box section in the battery tray is just starting to shows signs of grot :?

That top section of chassis is not a lot of work to replace, I certainly wouldnt be getting stressed over it. The steel is thicker there so its not like its going to fall to bits.
Im sure Beardymat posted photos of this being repaired, I know Paul (diddler) had it replaced on his car

We need that unit Oz, then there will be a resident welder. I could also wave it around for you...

I would definitely be saving this, there is not a great deal of work there...

Put it this way - I'd be looking at that red 325i Auto Mr13 has. It'd be cheaper to swap all YUC's bits into that that start restoring what you have. Looks a bit crusty Mush - what are the rear arches like once the boot side trims are pulled out? Any wrongness in there is the kiss of death really.
The old shell can be weighed in - that's going to be £250 when loaded up with some old morsels. 325i engine another £250.......you get the picture!

Or you could say bollocks to E30's...........with a Z1 sump and oil pick up, an M20 can be planted into an E36 Compact.

Well re shell does keep crossing my mind but the red auto needs more welding than mine Andy.
Plus if I was going to do a reshell I think Id go back to chrome!

One rear arch was repaired last year, just needs properly painting, boot and rear toeing eye/batery area repaired 3 years ago.
The other rear arch is solid enough as is roof and scuttle.

Taxed yesterday an put the 8j back on, I was hoping this was going to sort out the slight vibration Im getting through the steering wheel above 70mph but its still there :x not quiet as bad though.
No idea what is causing it, already changed the rack, new guibo and had the tracking checked etc..

Then went off to Mister 13s to change the oil and sort the front bumper out after my bump in the ice xmas eve. Front pannel is ok but one bracket inside the bumper is broken and a slight kink in the wing, it looks weird with no Alpina front spoiler on there.

Mrs 13 then cooked us a lovely meal, thank Simon and Nic

Nice one :D

Im guessing just cutting out the section I need and letting in rather than replacing the whole thing?

Would the car have to go on a jig if you did the lot?
