Passenger side jacking point to remove tomorrow and the bulkhead repair where the wiring loom comes through and job-jobbed.

Hopefully will be picking up the headlining and drivers seat from the trimmers before the weekend too

Had a text from Dan today asking me to come down and have a look at the touring as the passenger side was worse than expected :

I had thought the passenger side was solid and just needed the jacking point taken off - how wrong can you be

Over 80% of all E30's would not stand up to a proper inspection.

Looks great, I would expect nothing else though.

I like it, "Any brown it's fooked" spot on! 8)

It does worry me what i'd find if i looked in these places on mine, always like to think i've kept on top of maintaining the underside, and the MOT dude has always said how solid it is, but i dont truly know how good it is!

Good work tho!

Matt I honestly thought the passenger side was solid - i'd attacked it with a screwdriver and not managed to put a hole through it.

You might wanna buy shares in Waxyol when the weldings finished - I think I'm gonna be buying a lot of it

Were these cars ever Waxoyl'd as standard?

Its everywhere inside the panels on my Tourer, hated the stuff when i brought it but now think its saved it in a few places!

Nice to see it getting a bit of love. It's satisfying to know it's all solid underneath, good stuff.

I'm trying to get it to a point where its MOT'able with no advisories.

It needs a repair to the rear valance by the exhaust but its not an MOT fail point so can wait until I get it painted.

Hopefully Dan's welding will be done tomorrow - he'll be glad to get shut of it I think :D

I hate it mate.

I can do it if pushed but would much prefer not too!

Starting out it's very rewarding, no doubt about it. Once you've done a few it's just cack. Nowt wrong with your efforts mate. It's a learning curve and you'll get no better unless you try. :thumb:

Your too long in the tooth Dezzy, a mis-spent youth messing about with scrap by any chance?

I'll probably share your sentiments after I have finished up with this heap-o-shyte on my drive :D

Well the turds home but I'm not sure now where to start putting it back together - need a bit of inspiration peeps !

I should hopefully be picking up the repaired drivers seat and refurbed headlining this week, and the MOT is due mid October.

I need to order new sound deadening pads for the floorpan now the welding is finished and I'm gonna call in a valeter to clean the seats, carpets and doorcards before they go back in.

BUT - before I put this back in do I replace the cracked dash ? Got one coming from Duke137 and not sure whether I need to hang fire refitting the interior until I get the new dash and do it all in one hit ?

Also need to replace the speakers in the front footwells and rear pods ( components of course so I can use the OEM covers )

Once the sound deadening pads are in place is it worth brush-painting waxoyl onto any visible painted metal on the floorpan inside the car before the carpets go back in ? and also on the inside of the roofskin ? - I could really go to town and brush-paint waxoyl onto any metal surface which will be hidden by trim when it goes back together - but don't want to stink the car out obviously !

I'm really in two minds whether to try and get it back together over the next month and try and get it MOT'd, or take my time with it, get the engine sorted as well and then MOT it in the spring.
The head needs to come off to sort the exhaust studs and it needs a gasket anyway as its leaking oil at the front :x

Its bugging me that its almost in a drivable condition now and i've done virtually no miles since I picked it up in February - but I don't want to rush it and it would be off the road anyway between the end of November and beginning of March.

What you reckon ?

:D

I've also gotta remove the drivers side skirt, paint and waxoyl both sills, refit both skirts and jetwash/wayxoyl the arches & underside.

I think I'll probably try and get this done before the winter :D

Regardless of the smell you need to drown it in waxoil, get a small portable compressor and use a gun to fire it into the sills, pillars and roof cavities, round the arches and the boot areas. First thing though you need to get the rest of the trim off and clean everything, jet wash the arches out and a small brush to get into the hard to reach bits, dont waxoil until its completely clean and dry though.
The waxoil will smell for a couple of weeks until all the solvent has come out, then its gone for good. I wouldnt think about putting anything back in until its all cleaned and protected and nows the time to do it 8)

Dash first. Get that out the way then you are back to basics to fit the carpet. Then new dash back in and work backwards, centre console, rear seats before finally fitting the fronts.

Headlining? Fit that before the dash as I reckon the more room the better!

Once you've done what Dans said i'd leave the dash until everything else is back bar maybe the seats. To get the carpet in is going to be a hell of a lot easier without the dash there, same goes for pretty much everything else along the lines of stereo etc. Mine won't be going in until right near the end that's for sure :)

I'd also be tempted to get it through the MOT this year if you think it'll go through ok, saves the agro of messing about once your happy with it and ready to use it in the new year, can just jump in an drive 8)

Only problem with that Dave is that I'll have to get it back together over the next 3 weeks or so as I'm away the last week in September - think that will be cutting it a bit fine although I might spend all day Friday on it to get it jetwashed underneath and cleaned inside to prep for waxoyling :D
