It has been on road and off it
Noticed that the battery is 64AH, and not 72AH as recommended on the Zone Wiki. Need to figure if the shop will exchange it.
Also the battery goes dead if the car is started in 4-5 days. The shop have not found any leaks so far. Alternator is working fine.
The FICD device helped the AC compressor cut off. But probably due to weak battery AC sometimes does not work.
The speedo console had melted. The guys managed to solder all the connections back and have told me that this could be the last repair on it.
The mirrors work but are slow and noisy.
Door Pads: have not been made to accommodate clips, and the gap near electric window switch on rear door pads that I missed earlier.
So now we have screwed them on.
Shame when the leatherette trim and fiber glass back had come out decently well.
The Sun Visor surrounding trim remade with fiberglass has been properly covered with matching leatherette from the seats and door cards. So that is one good job done.
Got the accelerator cable from Cotswold, but forgot to order the bushes so waiting for them, till then the pedal gets a bit stuck.
Got the mirror cover from Cotswold.
Plate under speedo console is NLA with BMW. Anyone have a used piece for sale?
Radio: works, but sometimes intermittently. Could it be battery again? Front speakers are not connected yet.
Lights: Main beams yet to be replaced.
Seats: Side trim on seats is missing. Seat back mechanism falls when you pull the adjustment lever so need to take a look at them.
Most of the creaks and rattling sorted except driver's side door or pillar. There is a vibration rattle when in neutral.

Yesterday night, had gone to check on an E36 328i for a friend.
On the way back, heard a loud crash, and the wheels wouldn't budge.
Checked if I had run over a large stone or something I hadn't seen around a dark street corner. Used the phone torch to check if anything was loose, but could spot anything.
Can't figure if the prop shaft has come loose again or something else.
I switched it off and pushed it back home. Luckily it was just 6-700 meters.
The wheels were making a tak-tak sound as they rolled over, something obstructing the free rolling wheel.

Turns out the shop had 'forgotten' to tighten the differential bolts, two snapped off, two were bent.
Doesn't come as a surprise that they have shut shop.
Went back to my friend's garage. Don't like to change shops but these guys helped me in a way, as they had been screwing up once too often to put it down to mistakes and more like they didn't care.
(Lost the screw connecting the accelerator cable to the carb, broke the plate under the speedo console, didn't fit the coupling correctly and it disintegrated twice, fit the 316 badge with superglue on the left instead of the right side of the trunk lid which now means a respray, didn't check the gap between the air filter nuts and the bonnet so the bonnet has two bumps, respray here too, left a clear coat from a car being sprayed nearby, so had to get it removed and polished, overfilled the AC gas, forgot to connect new front speakers...)

Went to Lamington Road and a bolts specialist pulled out the correct bolts after having a cursory glance at it.
Told me that after 40 years in the business, he could give me the correct bolts even if I was across the street
Rs 450 for a dozen.
We put on the 6 that were damaged and kept the rest into a 'for later' bits box.
Karim has worked the hardest in the last year or so, especially since the garage is underground, with hardly any light or a ramp.

After this, drove it gingerly.
Prop shaft jumping about and then this made me crawl around at 20 kmph.
After 3 weeks of daily use, it's all held up well.

Meanwhile, the accelerator cable is a retrofit/legacy from before.
So even though a new / correct part number cable has come from Cotswold BMW, the feedback was that for the bracket made on the carburettor, the bowden cable is short.
So have to figure this new conundrum out
The bits and bobs at the accelerator pedal end also arrived.

Cable and plastic bits waiting for a genius to solve the cable length problem.

All the electrical gremlins were sorted with a new 80amp Exide in the boot.
The garage had fitted a 65 amp battery, without checking the correct size and the AC was cutting, there was a charging problem.
Threw out this:

The Facebook Zone page worked for once.
Bought the battery in boot cover from Al English. Arrived without an issue, except a small bend in spite of no bubble wrap.

After the new battery went in, so did the protective cover.

Sajid1 on here sent me the replacement for the cracked under speedo plate.

Using it every day, and still manages to invoke stares, thumbs ups, smiles and waves wherever I go.

Did the pre-facelift E30s come with inner arch covers? The plastic stuff that I see in later models.
If they did, wonder what the garages have done with them.

The front arches should have liners, not sure about the rear arches.

Do they really protect the front arches? Will go through a lot of trouble importing them, only to know that the double Waxoyl plus rubber spray that I've treated it to will be enough.

Any ideas why there is a groaning noise when i turn the steering wheel?
My guess is the Power steering... but is it hazardous, will it seize suddenly and cause an accident?
Can this be repaired?

We discovered a tiny leak on the metal part of the pipe running from the bottle towards the rack. Have topped up on the fluid. Groaning is almost gone.
Will have to get the pipe leak fixed.
Also, as suspected I need the following for the radio picked off Mitchen's audio stash.
1. Code
2. Power plug
3. Speaker connectors - 4 nos.
Ebay?
Putting in the wanted section too.

Thank you Sweep and Mart.
On the Alpine unit, trawling through the net for some free codes this is what I found:

Is this true?
That means for Alpine CM5908 there are only 3 codes?

51333

So I continued using it through the rains, the drumming of the falling drops drowning out all the squeaks and rattles, and underside, lubricating everything.
She holds the road well, all the effort to replace worn bushes and sundry rubber has paid off. The sunroof holds the weather out too.
Was expecting something to leak through but the seal works, and don't have to replace the roof lining just yet.
My daily run for a few months has been at least 42 km. Thoroughly enjoying the drive and the stares given that it's the only E30 being used in my city.

In office, parked away from the elements.
After a month or so, had been to a local shop to get a couple of things checked, and got the first service done.
Lots of sludge from the engine.
The fan belt is rattly and engine is vibrating a lot. Need to figure this.
The electrician at the workshop was a bozo, and left something loose, causing battery to go dead multiple times.

Finally we traced the leak to the fuse box, and further investigation revealed that the lower part of the fuse has a small burn. Thank god it didn't to anything serious.
But if anyone has a spare fuse box bottom, would appreciate it as I would want to replace the dodgy one soon.
Managed to get it home.

One fine sunny day, three competing brands of the era met.

Not Ace Cafe, but at the Cafe Coffee Day by the sea.
Followed by a drive with some friends.

And of course the rains continued, but didn't stop me from getting the e30 dirty.

Hello!
Facebook and Instagram have spoilt me silly.
Logged in here after ages.
So the updates are that more is running great. Got a quick re-spray, more to clear rust spots than for show.
Met two great guys from UK who had come over to Mumbai a few months back (Shanky and Shiv) owners of multiple Bimmers I hear. If you are here, hello again!
In terms of improvements to the money pit, 30mm H&R springs, and Koni Sport Adjustable shocks from Turner Motorsport!
Rides so much better without the groaning of the busted front shocks.
Here are some pictures from a Sunday run.

Hi, @e30cbe, logging in after a long time. Good to see you and your e30 builds here.
In an update, the 316 was stuck at a friend's parking for 8 months of the lockdown. And I was tending to his f30 320d sport with MPPK, Koni FSDs, and the works, while he was stuck near Gaydon.
Fun car, but too new for me, and that meant that if I didn't keep using it, various warnings kept popping up on the infotainment screen.
Now a couple of weeks ago, got the 316 flat bedded out of his place to a good workshop for much overdue service and repair.
- Differential is leaking so replacing the seals
- Changing the timing kit
- AC fan not working
- PS pipe is leaking
- replace brake pads
- fluids, filters
- small things here and there to make it better.
- trying to get a small electric pump fitted near the tank so less taxing for the mechanical fuel pump
In the 8 months, it was sitting in one spot which was really damp and humid, and the front wheels had seized, petrol tank had run dry, and wouldn't start thanks to a vacuum lock.
I hope my rust nightmare doesn't start again. :O
