As the touring will be a second car and i'am approching 21 prehaps a 24v engine may see its way into that, probably not like. i can only dream :(

After owning the car 6 month ive only mamanged to enjoy 2 month of it :( i'am fixing it so its a 4 grand tech 1 again, and the new owner will deffintly enjoy it more than i have. such as shame as its such a nice e30 to drive having most bushes replaced its very "tight" winkeye

donk went pop a few weeks ago so me and uncle magpie went across the country to pick a good used b25 engine up, also the clutch is rather heavy and thrust bareing utterly fooked so ive got a good used clutch on its way too.

here is old donk waiting to be removed.

new engine

after a bit of a clean and bling winkeye

Image

looks fine from here

Image

all new gearlinkage as thats rather sloppy

Image

Going to be perfect once this is all fitted, dont want to sell but it owes me far too much :(

Me and magpie are going to get the engine removed tomorrow and with a bit of luck have the new one all fitted, will update as we go :D

Basically fan belt went snap whilst booting it, with the sun etc i never notcied the dash lights on, then i notcied a loss of power quite instantly, looked down relised temp guage was up all lights on and as i pulled up engine cut out and wont start again, overheated and seized basically, still turns over, might be Head gasket. had a really bad missfire too, which has only been getting worse and ive replaced everything possible :S

me and mick have been busy at it today, more so mick :P

Mick has been busy removing exhaust and prop and we managed ot get engine all disconnected ready to lift out, to my amazement the air con system had gas in it :o

while mich did prop and exhaust i set about changing cambelt and water pump on the new engine

Image

engine ready to be lifted out, however someone forgot part of the engine hoist  :D

Image

after mick had gone i decided to try my new pressure washer and washed it, i forgot how shiney it was

engine all pressure washed and clean too.

hopefully clutch will arrive tomorrow and the new engine is in and running.

Image

an idea thats been floating around my head is to rebuild the original engine is savable, new rings, gaskets blah blah blah and fit it to the touring as i'am 21 in feb and it will be possible to insure it limited mileage as a modified classic. :D

todays antics seen this car come back to life.

me and magpie worked through the pissing down rain, we arent soft up here in the north :D

the car is better than its ever been, the engine runs like a dream and started first time, it runs better than any m20 thats belonged in my household. it runs way better than the old donk ever has, the old one was cursed from the moment i picked it up.

will let the pics do the talking.

Mick swearing at the air con rad

nice minty used clutch also came with good spigot bareing which mick has allready fitted, no more clattery bang bang at idle.

Image

decided to you the public footpath as it was flatter

Image

ummmm

Image

new engine in, mick doing his pose

Image

Image

car was now up and running and moved under its own power back onto drive :D :D

Image

the doomed donk, not sure what to do with it yet

Image

needs a few bits and bobs buying and aircon pump putting back on, other than that its ready to go :D :D

it was £60 for the bits i did have  gear stick is alot tighter than it was so i'am happy.

got a bit carried away tonight, stripped the old engine down, head didnt look too bad, engine was black as fook inside and alot rustier that the new engine inside the water ways, it was all silver in new engine.

removed the water pump which was silconed in  was a crappy plastic jobby  sump looked like it had silocone crap on too :(

head gasket looked about fooked. next mission will be to remove the old clutch which is stuck in with all different size bolts that are all rounded off and fooked

Being 21 next year means that classic modified insurance is on the cards. if touring is going to be a second car then might aswell have a proper donk. hopefully will get that rolling on sunday.

atleast you have an appreciating asset to show for your debt, so the debt isn't that bad. It's really just forcing you to save whatever your paying a month because you'd always get the money back in the future, minus whatever the interest was, then add on whatever it has appreciated by. Fuel costs are a small cost of the total cost of car ownership

your golf might be cheaper on fuel, but isn't the cost of its depreciation not the same as fuel for an m20 would be?
