Many thanks chaps,
Plan B is underway now,
The shell will be fragged of all good bolt on parts hopefully in the next few months,
Said parts will then be sold/swapped onto the new shell as necessary, not entirely sure what the new shell is going to be at this point (m3 shell woes) but i'm confident that its worth the effort

Just got back from Colchester a good 120 mile round trip and despite the back end bushes needing replaced i had an awesome drive -the engine feels like its just starting to loosen up and every time I rev'd it past 3700 I had a massive grin on my face,
Just the back end to swap with the new one along with 3.7something lsd and red stuff pads to try out and then -perhaps i'll be contented...
Doubt it though lol!

Indeed so dude, I'm amazed that the 4.1 small case diff has lasted through all the abuse, having said that, it'll probably sh*t itself tomorrow...

Another little update, changed no 6 ht lead and the rotor arm yesterday also cleaned up the contacts in the distributer.
It does feel a bit better though im not surprised comparing the old arm to the new one,
Should be having the caliper trailing arms fitted next week depending on parts supply, then i can finally get the red pads in there and enjoy a handbrake that isn't just a token jesture.
Also i figure if i get the arches patched properly i'll hang onto the moordoor long term as the rest of the car is clean, and as moordoors go, its not that bad...

Another small update,
Adjusted throttle stop, rewired the rear speakers, replaced the front drivers and fixed the clips on the back of my passenger tweeter pod.
I'm trying to summon the motivation to clean it again but so far i'm falling short,
At least some of the things that have been niggling at the back of my mind are sorted

Awesome thread mate. Just read thro it. Nice to see someone doing it all at home like me, hard work but the rewards are better aren't they.
I'm doing a 2.8 into mine as well, you got any tips for me?

Sorry i didn't reply sooner to that,
Yes one piece of advice, speak to Ant at Atech,
Decide if you're going N/A or forced induction and don't cut any corners
Update due soon

Right -first proper update for quite some time.
The Moordoor has been spending some time at A-Tech as a development platform.
1st things first the AFM was binned and replaced with a nice little MAF/cone filter,
New injectors fitted,
Last few weeks have seen some mapping missions and much improvement, from my first dyno plot and the innitial 'feel' of the 2.8 i can say with confidence that it has become an animal compaired to being innitially 'quite quick'.
Best economy -driving like a cu*t pretty much the whole time- saw 355 miles from full 55ltrs to reserve light.
All this from motronic 1.3
I really feel that the engine is coming into its own now, i'll post some pictures up tomorrow -its definatly not miller-time!
Many thanks to Ant for spec-ing the engine and the development work put in, as we all know this guy is a fuc*ing legend!
The car is fuc*ing epic!

This thread is making it so much harder to wait and save up for this kind of work! I was just barely able to get one of my rockers replaced before all my radiator hoses got depression and started commiting suicide against the fan blades and alternator pulley...
Don't know if I wanna do a monster NA or a beasty turbo. I do love the numbers made by turbos though...
. Superchargers aren't too common of a build on m20's, are they?

No indeed not, but you really do want to decide which route you eventually want to go down n/a or forced induction,
If i were to build this engine again i would opt for custom pistons and a higher compression ratio as i have an S50 that im working on atm,
Stick with it though, a little patience and a lot of hard work, its definatly been worth the effort

Later this evening i think, need to clean the bay up before taking more pictures but i'll do a quick set in the meantime.
I'll get my 'wordsmith' on...
In the meantime, Recaro SRD's Mother-Fu*kers!

In a moordoor no less -HAHAHAHAHA!
Nice seats!
I have been reading this thread with interest as next years project for my turd is an engine build. I have some ideas of specs in my head and would like to retain the motronic.
Ant, i'll give you a call soon mate.

Another small update,
Tracking and wheel balance checked/aligned.
Oil and filter change -castrol magnatec 10w40 & genuine filter,
I'll probably check and adjust valve clearances next weekend,
That being done, all is well...

Standard m20 2.5 injectors for the first few thousand miles until the MAF conversion, tomislav wrote:Quick question, what injectors didyou use for your 2.8?
Ant can supply a chip/mapping to suit your application,
If you are following a build similar to mine (see link on 1st page) then you should see 195 bhp as a starting point,
what injectors now tho?
I had a big conversation with ant at the end of last year about the 2.8 converstion and i'm a way into it now.
got m20b25 ones and m30b35 ones but apparantlt the nozzles are wrong (says ant) and i want some bigger single nozzle injectors now
