I know mate. I have promised myself I will finish the moredoor to smoke around in while I stick the motor in here. So close now.

The oil met system won't be there when the M50 is in I hope.

It's looking good for a finished motor this week like. Big mile stone that. Then I jus need the rear end changng over and the lump in. Bit of paint and the summer

Honestly I order most of my stuff from cotswolds as Preston Hall are a shower of sh1te. If your not buying brand new cars/parts they treat you like a pleb.

Getting closer all the time winkeye

These cams have sh1t me right up.

I went to fit the caps and only 1,2 & 3I could get a few threads. The rest won't go anywhere near

I have fit a couple of set of M50 cams so I know what's involved. I have even snapped one before :o:

That is why I am sh1tting myself now.

Looking like a proper motor now though

If you cant get them in the right place to sit the caps on I would go down to your dealer and see if they will lend you the compressing tool

dezzy, I put those cams in the engine in the car with no special tools apart from the timing block.
Have you got them sitting right? I was told it's pretty hard to snap the m50 stuff the s50 stuff is a different story though!

If I stop fooking about and customer's fooking lay off a bit the engine might be built Lee.

Dan our dealer won't lend us anything mate. I can't be bothered even asking.

Bob I have tried them a few ways either the first three caps goon and the last lobe is pointing stright up and down onto the follower so the cap won't go on. Or other at round.

The stress factor is very high around these bad boys. I had a hard on like why they were sat on for the first time!

I have been having sick thoughts of aftermarket inlet manifolds anyone herd good/bad about them? 8)

I think thats all i could get on you just have to very very slowly tighten the caps so that it pulls the cam down. From the mouth of a BMW tech guy.

The cams should be installed as the above pic so the first 2 lobes point 45 deg. to each other.

I think I was working on no more than 8th of a turn on each until I could get more to bite.

If I recall right, I dropped the cams in and lined them up, then dropped all the caps on and just put the nuts on by finger what would go on. Then I just nipped up the nuts with an 8th of a turn and used my other hand to keep pressure on the unbolted ones until I could get a nut on then it's just a case of nipping them up 1/4 to 1/2 a turn at a time..

I've got no more left that was my last and only set! :)

Ha ha if anyone has spares details need to be left below.

My mate took his new engine converted sierra out for the first time last night. 320bhp Brian Heart racing V6 1 of only 6 ever made. He paid a fortune for it off eBay. It's the engine that the boa and latter bob came from.
He got 7 miles of amazing fun out of it before it lunch'd itself. Smashed crank, no belts left on, bits of rod in the sump, and oil all over inner wings. Now that is crying material

If you have done any 'damage' it tends to take about 100 miles to fatigue and snap

You know I will be Sh1tting myself for the first 200 mikes now thanks.

I used a socket with no rachet 8th of a turn at a time till all the caps were down. Then evenly tightened till torqued mate. Think it went as it should.

Fooking hope so anyway :D

Maybe I should put an M badge on the bootlid mate. So you can see it. winkeye :moon:

Nothing on show Dan. I just didn't want the engine bay to look like any normal run of the mill M50 conversion because I'm a tart.

Your probs right mate. But just imagine for 1 second that a numpty tyre fitter, with your help builds a motor in the back of a tyre and exhaust center, that can run a 3.2 alpina lump close. Now that's something I reckon.
I hope I will be very happy with my efforts when it's in and set up. 8)
