Some more flattening and polishing going on! Put through yet another order for parts today as well - trim pieces, clips etc and the template to drill for the skirts.

Still wish I had bought that 323 that was for sale at a similar time as yours. One of the best chromie colours.

Thats not me - I gave up on attempting to paint it a long time agoDuke137 wrote:Like the look of that workshop you have to play about in lol
Thanks for the comments guys - hopefully I'll have it back soon enough, insurance is sorted at a very reasonable €226 for the year (around £190) and will stay the same even if I stick an S50 in there! (which I won't be doing) Am hoping to have Ant do some fettling with the engine in the new year.

This is a fantastic thread - great restoration.
What are your plans for the motor?
I have resisted temptation and kept my M20B23 totally stock. Can't bear to mess with a good strong car.
If the next COTM is "Best Restoration", you get my vote!!

Current intention is to try and build the engine, have spoken to Ant @ A-tech and he reckons 200BHP or so might be possible. He did mention it may not be possible with my original engine as the early 323i engines aren't all suitable (and there aren't many earlier than week 1 January 83 I'd imagine)
If its not possible than I might consider another option. Will be converting it to manual next month hopefully.

Another quick update -
Had to order a few clips etc, and some of them broke - so theres been a delay with getting the skirts on. Being used, they also had a slightly twist in them, so they've been bonded as well - hence required some minor scaffolding! Apologies for the poor quality photos!

Still stockpiling parts for it - lots of new interior trim ordered and sitting in the boot of my M3! Have lots of brake parts ordered so will refurb the calipers and do a general overhaul!
Manual box is hopefully going in next month - although the lads doing the respray still haven't wrapped up, and I'm not around to collect the car for about two weeks, so I guess I won't be back in it before February.
Planning on getting the BBS wheels sent over to Lepsons for a refurb while the brakes are being overhauled too.
Still need to get it registered here too - which is €700 purely for registration plates

Well keep up the good work mate, im sure it will be a head turner when its all on the road. The old boy keeps asking me for pictures of it, so ive been collecting them as you post them up, to give to him, when you have finished it, so he can see it restored from start to finish, he owned and spent alot of years with that car (12 of them looking at it in his garage) so i think his still missing it lolkdevitt wrote:Cheers Vinnivinni wrote:Getting there Kdevitt, looks the nuts mate, wish i had the time to have done what you have to it, but i didnt lol. Nothing too exciting to report I'm afraid. Car still isn't ready. Bit annoyed - activated my insurance policy before Christmas because I was told it'd be ready, so over a months policy will have expired before I even sit in it again! Not to worry -
Anyway, picked up this parcel shelf from Chris Warburton (http://www.chriswarburton.co.uk) , who was great to deal with as usual. It has the rear blind and is in very good nick.
Just decided to give it a quick clean and remove the speakers that came with it. May yet dye it black though to go with the rest of the interior - anyone done this before?

Was slightly dirty - but nothing significant

Will be wiring up the sound system and applying sound deadening before any interior goes back in.

I think you can use aerosol for the parcel shelf.

Looks fantastic.
I love the work you have put into this.
Still can't make my mind up if teh Tec1 kit is just gorgeous, or a little bit wrong.
What are you going to do with the seat belt cut outs in the parcel shelf? Are you just going to leave it as a larger hole than needed, or fabricate a plastic cover thing to tidy it up a little?

Haven't even gotten to look at the seat belts yet - if it means ordering new bits I don't mind. Am determined not to take any half measures on this one.
