I've had the luxury of running my engine in a previous E30, and although it ran without fault i wanted to ensure it was as good as i could get it and have a reference point for levels of internal ware before i "nail the crap out of it" so to speak. I am replacing the main bearings/bolts, big end bearings/arp's, re fitting the original oil pump ( was previously run with the M50 sump/pump) checking the oil pump & sprocket nut ( mine was not as tight as i expected & had no locktite), cam sprocket bolts, shims & replacing servicable parts. Basically trying to reduce the chances of something going wrong which i have experienced previously, and although the cost of thos sort of thing does mount up, its cheap in comparison to dealing with a blown M power engine...good luck with it!
Cheers! Well the shims on my engine were done not long the engine was pulled out so that saves me job fortunately. I'm in the same mind frame, i want to minimise the chance of something letting go in the engine if it's a case of a few quid in preventative maintenance!
