Cheers! Well the shims on my engine were done not long the engine was pulled out so that saves me job fortunately. I'm in the same mind frame, i want to minimise the chance of something letting go in the engine if it's a case of a few quid in preventative maintenance!ajay wrote:Cook318IS wrote:Thankscan I ask what provisional things you are doing before it goes in? I assume what I've listed and then new plugs, thermostat, etc?
I've had the luxury of running my engine in a previous E30, and although it ran without fault i wanted to ensure it was as good as i could get it and have a reference point for levels of internal ware before i "nail the crap out of it" so to speak. I am replacing the main bearings/bolts, big end bearings/arp's, re fitting the original oil pump ( was previously run with the M50 sump/pump) checking the oil pump & sprocket nut ( mine was not as tight as i expected & had no locktite), cam sprocket bolts, shims & replacing servicable parts. Basically trying to reduce the chances of something going wrong which i have experienced previously, and although the cost of thos sort of thing does mount up, its cheap in comparison to dealing with a blown M power engine...good luck with it!
