I got a cheap quote of about £150 with all mods declared but they wouldnt do an agreed value unless the car was garaged, im sure it was R H insurance.
With Sky its just over £300 with all mods declared and agreed valuation.

Think mine 3k miles a year however in the last 3 years its only covered about 2k
Using mine as a daily at the minute though so might forfill the 3k.

Hey peeps, haven't been on here too much since i sold my E30..
Felt something lacking in my life since i sold it too, drove other cars and never got the same feeling as i did when i was in the 30..
Untill last weekend, went and had a look at this beauty and bought it on the spot!
Good bits
2 owners from new
76,470 on the clock
been garaged for 7 years then the previous owner bought it and started replacing what needed doing
i cant see any rust from up top BUT i will be getting it on the ramp tomorrow and giving it a good going over!
(Pics to follow on my project thread)
Bad bits:
the hood is shaaaggeedd! needs a new one asap!
Its a 320i auto- which isn't too bad as a cruiser but anyone who knows me on this site probably knows my plans for the car and they don't involve this engine
ill let the pics do the rest of the talking :

Heres the rest of the pics

Plan is the same as its always been, get the beast of my m30 in there and throttle body it!
when i got it in the air i couldnt believe how clean it was, i was expecting the guy to have been bullshittin as the majority do when trying to sell an E30 "yea its mint...no rust" all the usual...i guess he wasnt!
Ill let the pics do the talking

I also got an original spec sheet printed aswell

Thanx guys! Going to speak to the bodyshop about an undersealer they recomend for it because "Prevention is the best cure!"
Im thinking ill be cruising in the 2litre for now (which wont be much as the roads will no doubt be being gritted soon and noooo way im getting this covered in salt!)
If all goes well next spring i will be doing the conversion! Going to be sorting out parts and stuff till then!
Main concern is an airbox for the throttle bodies hmmm..

Update time peeps!
Ok so i have a week off work and what better time to start righting the wrongs with the new beast!
Brakes are non existent on this car atm so i thought a new set of disc n pads all round + Brake fluid change wouldn't go amiss (It doesn't even look like the brake fluid has ever been changed!
)
Also have a knackered N/S/F wheel bearing so thought id replace both fronts.
So first thing i wanted to do was to fit these bad boys:

but then i remember i have an insanely lowered car and my jack won't fit underneath
Clarke low profile jack on its way
So i thought in the meantime why not see how clean the old girl really is...so i started undressing her
Started in the rear:
Bit scabby in the corners but i had a go with the screwdriver and its still strong...needs to be sorted before it becomes terminal!

Spaghetti junction. . With added key

This isn't just any slab of concrete..this is BMW concrete

can someone tell me why this is here again? and what is the disadvantage if i remove it?
So i thought I've come this far..i might aswell keep going..so i did
Started on the inside:

23Year old dust anyone?

Bit more messy wiring

Couple of scab's in there too as you can see in the pics
Found my rear windows were slow in operation so thought might aswell get them out while im there:

Cleaned all the old manky grease off and regreased- they are smooth now as they should be

Inner skins/arches

So i thought I've come this far..i might aswell get the carpet out too:
Also while i was rooting around in the car i found both rear sections of carpet soaking wet! Also when i first bought the car the seats were damp so I'm putting this down to the torn hood.
Was dark by the time i finished taking this out so 1 pic for now untill tomorrow!

Got the carpet drying off next to the heater (annoying my mum in the living room
)
By this time it was too dark to do anything in the car so I removed the rear blower to find out why it was'nt working..relay was clicking i had a feed to i took the motor apart to see whats what..

Corroded terminals

Cleaned up the circuit board with some electrical cleaner and my tooth/wirebrush..plugged it in crossed my fingers and it actually workedddd! Man i love these cars!
One question: Has anyone got one of these that actually work?

and a bit of an arty shot untill tomorrow

Ok so still waiting for my carpet to dry so i took some proper pics of shell!

Are these repairs??

Scabby bits..will be going at these with a wire wheel tomorrow to see how bad they are:

what the...?
lol

All in all no nasty surprises! Well apart from the speakers

Then i got started on cleaning out the arches ready for a bit of waxoyl action
Like i was saying yesterday about how low this is heres a comparison of my old jack n the new one i bought specially for the beast!

<- snug as a bug!!8O
And heres a look in the arches before dirty / after jetwashed pics

Inside the front arches:

brake pipes still good

Nice!

Left it to dry overnight ready for this tomorrow..(Polsta you'd be proud bro! lol)

Feeling so happy/lucky to have such a good shell as a base..specially as a prefacelift! Its what I've always wanted!
anyone still watching? lol

im watching bro !!
good job, that floor etc looks very nice compared to most posted on here
just remember to heat that waxoyl right up in hot water for as long as it takes until its very runn, and do a test spray- making sure the turney ajusting screws etc are all good, keep it shaken up and keep returning to the hot water as it starts to thicken, and a load of pumps on the handle before spraying, its great to do
remove rear door cards and sill trims, scuttle vents - so you can do the lot
ive done all the cavities and stuff, but not the arches on mine yet, so interested in seeing how this goes , i wont do mine until its time to re fit the arch liners etc, but a few more bits to do before then
take lots of pics

Its ideal to do this in the summer but im not going to risk leaving it over the winter with no added protection!
Now that you've seen the rusty bits what do you guys advise? grind it back and fertan it or grind it back and if its all good waxoyl straight over the top of it?
bodywork is my Achilles heel tbh, im not useless at it but experienced wisdom would be much appreciated!

"Take lots of pics" dont need to tell me twice!

doesnt look like much rust at all ?
BUT - before going gun-ho with the waxoyl , remove that fuel like metal pipe cover thing from rear drivers side arch !!!! vital , clean any crud from behind it
get the cover sorted out- bead blasting is ideal, or wire brush it etc get rid of anything loose, cover in fertan, leave 2 days, then black hammerite smooth, it , at the very least, do not leave that on the car like that and waxoyl over it
personly - right in the corners and crevices, id spray fertan and leave a day or 2 before waxoyl , it will 1- nip in the bud any rust you cant see/surface in the corners, 2-drip down right in the corners, and 3- lay doormant under the waxoyl for years to come and kick in to action if anything was to rust
same with the sills etc- pour fertan inside the sills and sunroof drains-catching it as it drains out the drainage runs/holes, then re cycle it through, then waxoyl
waxoyl primarily is for ceraves and holes and internal areas, not for outside

its metal- hence being rusty, held on by 4 plastic nuts , undo the nuts pull/wiggle it free and downwards , and youl see all the crud behind and at the ends where pipes go in- get rid of it all, with a tooth brush etc
if you dont treat that now it will just rust to dust
dont rush this job, do it properly, and thouroughly clean everywhere before doing do, stuff brush, soap, water etc on all that sealant to get rid of any crap on there
