sometimes wish i bought a cheaper tech 1 :(
a cheaper one would be far far worse than what you have mate
:(

that is quite bad, I expect it will get a lot worse when you start digging it looks to be under the wiper motor area above too ?
it's going to be hard for them to get in and weld this properly will be best to have the dash out and strip back the insulation ..also the fusebox will be in the way :(

I paid alot for mine too (5k), but once you delve into the unknown even if it has been restored (never thouroughly) you find horror after horror :? :( )

My intention was too just drive it like it came out of the showroom hastle free.. i think this rarely happens for anyone.

When finished if the market is right and you keep on top of things it will be worth alot more, especially the fact your recording every correction and repair this looks good in a profile, but hopefully you will enjoy the car before moving on.

the car is still worth what you paid anyday mind, the usual aeas had been resolved, alteast its not a complete sh*tter

Once back together we should meet up sometime were not far apart

That just goes to show that it doesnt matter how clean the car looks, On top and underneeth. These turds hide rot like any other 20 + year old car.

Its much better found now than when its taken a good hold mate.

Its a cracking motor, you wouldnt want a cheaper Tech 1. You would be sweeping it up in buckets by now :D

yer it does look difficult he looked at it for a few mins in the inner arch and from inside and gave me a quote but i expect the quote to double if not tripple when he starts digging

might remove the fuse box at the weekend and all the insulation

Gutting find Alex, certainly going to be checking mine in that area tomorrow while everything is out the way.

@ Rob, whereabout does the rust start round the pedal box?

Alas this a really common weak spot on e30s. People need to realise that these are now old cars and the first job on the list when you buy one is to strip all the splashguards and trim out and look for and repair any nasties that you come across.
Nearly every e30 I now come across , even the very shiny expensive ones , have issues in areas that are not visible on first inspection .
The passenger bulkhead / glovebox area is all to common and very difficult to repair as to allow proper access the fusebox/loom has to be removed :(

A damp passenger footwell is seldom caused by a blocked "elephants trunk" ............

On the bronzit turd the rust was hidden behind the pedal box :

You can just see the edge of it on this pic but I didn't notice it or realise it was there until the box was out

Don't tell me you brokethe bronzit for that.... Have you seen my thread?

Alex, it looks a bit nasty and to behonest Iwould say the whole lot wants stripping back for a look (dashboard out etc) as once I did that I got the full extent of the problem. Looks like you caught it early though.

As for that accelerator pedal mount, mine is fubar does anyone know where to get a new one or the part number of realoem? I can't see it?
How do you pronounce 'either'? I say 'either', but some say 'either'. Either is correct.

Ferg no mate - the bronzit was broken mainly because of the rear arches, front floor/jacking points - and then I found the bulkhead rot as well as some other bits into the bargain

Will get some pictures when i get chance. the interior is almost back together now too, look soo much cleaner now too

its bloody amazing how quieter it is inside with it all welded up too, sounds so much quieter.

Bad news about maybe having to sell it, it looks proper.

Just whipped up my carpet and found a load of rust too so I know the feeling :(.
How much were you charged for the welding if you don't mind me asking? PM me I you like.
