Update to thread,

Firstly thanks for the previous comments....

Small additions to mention first...I managed to put together a complete set of the right spec, SE grey interior bits, so they have gone in.

Image

I offered the original Alpina build plaque up to the new centre console, but it's worn condition was much more noticeable against the light grey, so a new one is on order from Alpina...without a delivery date though, so the original went back in place.

A large toolkit with rare accompanying vinyl boot trim and lock cover bracket, has smartened the boot up.

Image

My intention when I purchased the car was always to tackle the bodywork thoroughly...Initially though I wanted to enjoy the car for a while, so had a few obvious cosmetic areas smartened up, making it presentable to run around in.
After a year collecting all the parts I knew were required, we now had enough to make a start at a proper job, so the car has been stripped out, all panels, trim, glass and carpets were removed.

From what we found it wasn't as bad as it could have been, still a fair bit of welding and fabrication was required in the usual spots, mainly correcting previous bad repairs. Its had new panels for the sunroof, new wings all new exterior trim bits; grilles, wiper arms etc...a new rear window as the element for the de-mister had corroded, and a full respray followed by new Alpina decals, which I had bought ages ago with this work in mind.
Unfortunately no before and during pics, so in the poor quality phone pics it appears to look much the same...I did attempt to take some but they didn't come out well in the bodyshop. The finish is great in the flesh, really pleased with it!

A few pics after a wash and leather - i'll get some better one up when its been waxed for the first time.

The pfeba/sytner spec Alpina side skirts have been left off...I couldn't source the rails from which they hang and didn't fancy having the brand new wings and sills drilled and bonded up.
Image

Also daily has changed in the meantime, always fancied a 323 as it's the only m20 I hadn't owned and there a bit of a rarity. I had heard mixed things, mainly bad from people who had never driven them, but importantly some good reports from previous owners and a couple of reminiscent ex BMW techs I know. So decided to try a nice one I knew of and I have to say I'm impressed! It drives really nice.
Its wearing mims with snow tyres here during the bad weather.

But usually rolls on these...

As always the C2 looks stunning. Shame no pics of the work though.

Nice 323i as well. Henna is one of the best colours for a chromie and quite rare now!

I’ve thought about a manual conversion Steve, but I think its suits it as a torquey cruiser.

James , there's nothing like winding up a manual M20 especially in C2 guise,

Tbh the only thing this car is missing is a manual box, you have gone this far, take the plunge. Make it perfect!

Yeah fair comment...but take yourself back to the days of AVO Steve, I know how much you liked wafting around in that - add around 80 brake to that experience and you've got an entertaining car when you want it.
I've got the perfect comparison in a friends (Lukai's) manual c2, which is mechanically sound and drives great, tbh there's not a lot between the cars in performance.

Not sure I'd rather have a self stirrer for it anyway, as it seems a shame to alter the originality of such a rare car. Thinking about upgrades, I did enquire about Birds Switchtrolic auto systems but they are nla... A transmission change is something to consider for the future perhaps, if I change my mind.

New badges and plaque turned up today...

I never knew they would redo the plaques, mines looking all of it's 26 years of age :(

I think Si'd stating "bang on the money" in so much that a Manual conversion would spoil an otherwise original car?

Which I agree. Leave it as auto for originalities sake alone.

My convertible has the C2 2.7 engine and I left it auto. Initially as i thought autos suit a convertible because they are more of a cruiser. But also now I realise that the tourque of a C2 lump matched to an auto is a devine thing to behold. It really is so much different to a standard 2.5 auto, which lacked torque.

Leave it as it is I say.

+1 mine never fails to impress and puts a smile on my face. The only problem with having an auto is that i can never be arsed to change gear in the van anymore as it feels inconvenient :)
I use to be a manual freak and remember telling myself i'd never own an auto (how things change)...

That's in good condition! Different to my original, ive noticed there are differences between cars and their build plaques. The inscription on mine denotes the model and build number, it's also engraved in a script font, rather than standard block print.

0450 is my 2 door one. I have a plaque from an older E reg C2 with 0532 or something! they all seem to read different on UK stuff.

luckily mine is good but not mint. They seem to get chipped and scratched by people chucking stuff in and out i my guess

Its been a while!...
Little bits have changed since the last update...the C2 did its job for another year, it took us on holiday and did a couple of shows.
Here it is in full GT guise, OE roof rack and all which came in handy for the long holiday drive and the Mrs's luggage!

Most recently, now in full stripes and standard lights.

Searched high and low for one of these Blaupunkts, Everyone seemed to want one since Bss's post in the OE ICE thread, ended up finding a NOS one in Germany, impressed! Nice piece of kit.
Image
Image

In other news...an opportunity came up to buy a really nice shadowline "chromie" rare in standard 2 dr form (i.e not a tech 1). Its the most solid unfettled pre-faclift car I've ever seen tbh, everything is rust free, sills, jackpads, wings, inner arches no frills ( i'll get some more detailed pics up). Freshly built engine using brand new parts, my new daily ATM, so the henna red 323 has gone into storage.
