Brillant thread Dan, Time Warp E30! :D

My uncles got a Z3 with the 2.8 ally block with the M50 manifold swop and wade a simular power think it was 239bhp, am i right in saying (as he did) that the ECU turns its self up and down for power or economy? he always says it gets realy good economey on the way to a track day but takes afew laps before the ecu turns everything up for power :D then if he resets the MPG its crap till about halfway home then starts to improve again :D

Wow!!!

Had to keep scrolling back up over the pictures of the stripped shell just to make sure it really was that clean and not just the pictures looking funny!

Great way to mod a good E30 too... I agree with no point keeping it a 316 as no matter how clean, whats the point of something with a crap engine... If it was an Alpina, Hartge, M3 or something else that's very rare I might think different... but I'd even still be inclined to modernise the brakes and steering on some of those and just keeping the original bits in a box.

The fact you've kept it stock looking still makes it just as valuable in my oppinion in another 15 years...

Only difference is, it will be a nice car to drive rather than some sloppy slow 316, lol.

Ive found the M52 management to be much more adaptive than the M50 but I dont think it turns the economy on and off, mixed driving I get up to 25mpg, I dont go very far without having a play but I estimate 30mpg tops for mway granny driving.
I reckon im just about at the limit for a standard ECU, now ive done 1000 miles of proper driving (not running in miles) ive started to notice the pinging at certain loads/rpm a lot more, I really need to get it mapped properly before Santa Pod :D

Cheers Dave, I wanted to mtech it at first but decided to keep it standard looking.
Cant beat handling mods, brake discs are now blue! 8O

Such a chariot, I wish I'd spent more time ogling it at the TBMW day - I didn't appreciate just how utterly clean the shell is, though I did spend some time eying the engine install - it just looks factory. Can't think of anything else I'd do to it if it were mine - it's just about perfect.

And all those saying you should mothball it in standard form, I hope they are eating their words now. I probably would have said the same, but it just goes to show, if you do the right things you can end up with something all the better. All it needs now is the reiger widearch kit...

You should have just interrupted, computer always says no anyway :)
Bigger is the only way! Bigger by 400cc in this case, engine is spoken for now and just awaiting a deposit before it gets pulled 8)

The colour is great, the only downside is it needs to be uber clean to look its best :D

i have been seriously pissed off for a while now, not having an e30

but seeing this and a couple other chromies getting sdome love recently has reinforced my
plan to not dive into the first e30 that comes along and take my time and find the right car and add the right engine

DanThe absolutely love that car very jealous but love everything you've done

i tried so hard to convince myself that i had enough of e30s,damp carpets and dodgy windows that wont demist etc etc
but life in anything but an e30 is so dull

current car dosent bare talking about it is pure and simple
transport to the shops etc lol

i was stupid to believe i could live without an e30 lol

ahh well lesson learned, so need to find a barn with the hidden minter and as you have done add an engine that can make the e30 go as well as it looks  i'll find one eventualy winkeye

I would have liked some 17 inch BBS splits, but with a 2k price tag and being a total c*nt to clean theyre not really practical!

For me Hartges were the next best thing, advantage is I can now fill them with brakes which will also look great behind them
