When you say it's your first car, do you mean your first E30?

What other plans you got for it?

Its my first car ever, i only passed last week so im raring to drive it.
Plan for it is:
Full Respray (dots of rust here and there)
lower about 50mm on coilovers
sport interior
clear headlights with HIDs
black kidney grill
mtec1 boot spoiler
hopefully z3 steering rack
usual engine stuff, exhaust, modified airbox, maybe performance cams.
nice i.c.e setup
Not sure what alloys a wanna put on it yet
There's loads of over stuff i wanna do but untill i get a job all this is just ideas.

Very nice mate. I had my 316i as my first car, had it 4 years now but there's nothing I can find worth trading it in for. Watch the back end! Good luck

"hopefully z3 steering rack"

I thought the Z3 was known as an uninvolving drive, so whats so good about its steering rack?

Im not sure,
I was reading a post about e36/z3 rack and everyone was praising it, and saying it was a definite upgrade if the original e30 one gives up.
Im just putting the idea out there from reading post on the zone.

I wouldn't spend anything on it - save up and get a 325i! I would clean and polish it up and leave it standard - a nice 316i 2 door is worth £1500 in Ireland so it would pay to keep it stock - maybe a 30mm drop (50mm is too much) and some 15 inch BBS. Coil overs aren't such a great idea on a road car that's used every day.

Looks like a nice straight car to start with!

I also have a 1989 G 316i 2 door in Schwarz, everything exactly the same as yours, wheels, etc apart from mine has a lip spoiler on the boot.

I would have to agree with Andyboy. It's a nice looking original car. It's pointless putting that much into it. Drop it 35 or 40, get the rust touched up well (no need for a full respray), a clean set of 15" BBS, a tech 1 spoiler if you desire.
I would hold onto it for a while until you can insure something a bit bigger (318is would be best IMO). Some of us daft Irish feckers will buy your 316i.
