It had to happen really, after the premature death of my last e30 ive been making do with my e36 untill now. This car came up for such a stupidly cheap price,i couldnt ignore it!Ok so its a 316 AND it needs its head gasket sorting, the interior is shabby at best and it needs a new front wing but i dont care. The chassis is solid and the rest of the body is fantastic, she just needs a little tlc-

I have an idea of how i would like it to look,as soon as she's running again i'll get to work on the cosmetics but for now i can sleep easy knowing i have saved another e30 from certain doom

A front splitter of some kind is defo on the cards,318is/Alpina/m-tech 2 not sure yet,i guess i'll see what comes up when ive got some cash handy.Ive already got two boot spoilers in the shed,a 325i jobby and an se one too.I want it really low so maybe a 60mm drop?I would love some 325i sport BBS wheels too.As for that interior,im unsure yet weather to strip it out like my last one or look for some decent sport seats.Loads to keep me busy then winkeye

Really liked the front end on my old 325i,can see me doing the exact same thing again i think

Cool man. You must be quite excited about getting started. My 318i started off very similar to that, same colour and everything. Now it been converted into a 325i sport, iS front lip, 15"BBS and leather sports seats and lots more planned winkeye

What happened to your old 325 then?

I cracked the head  Started taking the engine apart to sort it and i noticed a huge hole down at the bottom of the inner wing. After some further investigation i found rust everywhere. Both front footwells were rotten, and also the drivers side rear wheel well was so rotten i could see the tyre from the boot  I decided it was too much work for me at the time so i stripped it and sold most of the parts on here.Obviously that was a mistake but nevermind,i can start again from fresh

Thats ashame mate, looks mint from the pic.

Good luck with the car mate and keep us updated with pics.

By the way I used to have a 60mm drop all round and found it not only impractical but the handling suffered too. Reckon 60/40 is a nice comprimise.

I'd check with some other zoners too. Thats just my opinion/experience. I think many will say to just go for a 35mm drop but I think 60/40 is a nice comprimise between handling and looks. I love low riders too

Update-6/12/06

I started stripping the interior today to see what condition the floorpan was in.All looked ok from the underside but i wanted to be sure before i really got stuck in!

Image

Image

Image

Was more than happy with what i found! This is what came out

Image

Almost all of it will be taken to the tip.I'll hang on to one or two bits but the seats and carpet have seen better days so they will be replaced, not sure with what yet, will probably be a pair of Cobra bucket seats
The centre consul is also going to be junked and the window switches moved up to the dash somewhere. The cigarette lighter isnt gonna be needed but i'll move that to behind the dash just in case its needed in the future. The standard steering wheel will be junked and replaced with this-

A Momo Millenium :D

Image

I had that in the shed still atached to the e30 hub adapter from my last e30 so that was a result! Also in the shed are my old bonnet and a mint drivers side wing. Both are in better condition than those currently on the car so i'll fit those when i start the bodywork-

Image

Image

Whilst on the subject of the body,i picked this up yesterday for £30!!!

Image

Also on its way to me,with a little help from ebay,is a 318is front lip spoiler and a pair of se sideskirts. Not sure if i'll use the skirts but they were included in the sale with the lip and for £40 all in i was quite happy

Whats next on the list then?Tomorrow(thursday 7th) night im off to see another 316 with the hope that the engine is sweet and running well. For the price of me sorting the head on my car,i can buy a whole other car!!!I'll post up after ive seen it,hopefully this time tomorrow i'll be the proud owner of two e30 316's  winkeye

Good on you mate - I have an old 316 as a daily driver. I have fallen in love with it (as well as my MR2) but I cant really justify spending any money on it - not because its old but because it has the pants M40 engine.

Are you doing it purely for the lovge of the E30 shape, or any other reason (insurance etc)?

Rob
4 seats is 2 too many.

Purely because i badly needed another e30 in my life!I have an e36 also but there is no comparison really. The e30 is just such a better looking car, even tho its only got the little 316 it will do me as a nice cheap project.Eventually i would like a bigger engine in there but for now i'll just be happy being behind the wheel of a classic bm again

Picked up the new mota today.Had a nice drive up to Surrey and met a fantastic bloke named Richard. Was most impressed to find a track prepaired e30 325 on his driveway and also another e30 about to be given the treatment

Anyhoo here it is then-

Image

Just need a couple of days off to get it fitted now.Is there anything i should do to it before i get stuck in fitting it tho?Anything i should change whilst its easy to reach?
