My first E30...updated further down page

Hey guys pretty new to the forum, thought i'd put a post up showing my E30 318 i got just before x-mas, thats been sitting in the garage for a while but is now finally been worked on. Should be on the road end of april, looking forward to it





Old engine sounded like a machine gun....




Borrowed from a 5 series, on one sketchy looking hoist...


Went in through the top, no problems and sits nice....

Will be changing all the brakes before its on the road thats the next job. Got a few things i want to try, will definatly post up whatever i went with.

Little update for those who were interested, rear drums have now been changed to disk, using z3 rear arms.

Had some 205/45/17's stretched over my 8.5inche wide rears looks nice.

And i changed the front legs for E36 items, still waiting on my eccentric bushes to help move them into the centre of the arch


Engine is in and starts, no exhaust on it yet so a little loud.


And here it is, just need to put the bushes in and put a new clutch in and sort out the hand brake lines and shes ready to go, can't wait to drive it.

Yeah is a 2.5 couldn't get hold of a 2.8 or M3 lump, might look into changing it at a later date. If something comes up at the right price But looking forward to driving this now with a light tune.

@jhono im waiting on my CAB's at the moment, thats one of the last things to do on it, before it goes for a MOT.

The E36 rims look the business! So the front uprights and hubs are a direct fitment...? And the rear Z3 arms bolt straight in...?

Dude this looks sorted, something I would like to do too at some stage. Was it easy enough to do?? what diff you running?? also i love the way you have the strut brace on the rear i ain't seen that done before......

Lol the strut brace is only on the back like that cause i was playing around with the front legs and haven't put it back on.

The legs did go straight on and everything bolts up, you just have to use the E30 top mounts. And after talking to Glenn the E30 eccentric bushes on the wishbones pull the wheel back into the middle of the arch. Still waiting on mine to be delivered.

The Z3 rear arms bolted straight on, all i had to do was change the cv's off the z3 drive shafts back to the E30 ones to bolt upto the diff.

I have a E30 318 diff in there at the moment, hoping it will be a quick car rather than a fast car. Doubt it will last long so will change it to something differen't in time.

@Pal the whole project hasn't been to much of a problem, i have no mechanical back ground and have done all the work myself so can't be that bad. Changing the legs was simple apart from a few bolts that probably haven't moved for 18years. And rear arms were a simple straight fit. Only issue i have at the moment is the hand brake cables but i haven't really looked at them yet. Might just be cause ive got from drums to disks. Will let you know after i've had a play.

Also using wheels with a E36 offset seems to be okay, as they don't stick out the arch at all, with 7.5inch at front and 8.5 on the back. Did need to stretch the rubber to get under the arches tho.

because of the use of z3 and e36 suspension setup the wheels will sit further out compared to having used m3 setup, hence why i think e36's used the higher offset wheels

i do like the way the wheels look..
