Ha, ha yes, turned it over three times checking the valve timing, turned it over on the key with plugs out to build u oil pressure, refitted the DME relay, hot wired the fuel pump to build up fuel pressure and then fired it up

This is a lovely build. I've often thought about doing something similar with the headlights but not been brave enough yet

Thank you, it is just being patient and a bit careful, especially with the heat gun separating the glass from the reflector

Fitted & working with the grilles back on. A few posts back shows how I cut the reflector to fit the Halo ring in.

A bit more progress and a few more set backs, found my heater valve leaking so I have got to search for my spare.
Fitted the remaining door panels after building my new drivers door lock and checking the electric windows.
Fitted a new tracker.
Fitted the rear carpet and seats and boot trims, one of which had to be modified to fit around the battery cable.

Wasn't there a fix for those leaking heater valves? Something to do with the right washers etc

Little set back after 200 miles I found a very small leak in the custom radiator, so I had a bit of work remodifying it all to refit the 535i radiator back in and move the fan to the front until I can get that repaired .

Of course that meant rearranging coolant hoses and moving the air flow meter over 10mm

I took the opportunity to cut the extra vent hole in the front panel to allow better air flow

Made a new bracket to relocate the cooling fan.

and of course it has now had a machine polish and ceramic coating to shine even more

Also a preview of something in the pipeline, my M-Tech 2 tailgate spoiler had seen better days distorted by internal corrosion of the metal base frame , I did try a Lithuanian version but it was very poor quality and didn't fit properly as the lip was too big and fouled the roof, so I sanded my original back to shape and stripped all the paint off.
I have had it 3D scanned and a test print in PLA once I have soothed this out and get a good fit the plan is to use that to create a mould for a larger run in fibre glass or silicone.

About time someone did this, there's never been a decent aftermarket alternative to the oem spoiler, which even if you can find one are eye-wateringly expensive.fixedwheelnut wrote: ↑Mon Mar 20, 2023 10:41 pmAlso a preview of something in the pipeline, my M-Tech 2 tailgate spoiler had seen better days distorted by internal corrosion of the metal base frame , I did try a Lithuanian version but it was very poor quality and didn't fit properly as the lip was too big and fouled the roof, so I sanded my original back to shape and stripped all the paint off.

Little update, the spoiler is ongoing, the mould is now done and awaiting first casting to test fit.
I managed to get some BBS lookalike alloys, which I had refurbed by Lepsons in Gillingham, Kent. with San Marino Blue centres to match the bodywork, which I think is going to work, they have come out really well.
I can highly recommend Lepsons work they do a really good job
Here they are before refurb sat next to the car. After refurb with San Marino Blue centres

That's interesting, I tried to get Lepsons to do my OEM BBS split rims but Lepsons would not do them, Having to take them a bit further afield when I get round to it.fixedwheelnut wrote: ↑Fri Sep 01, 2023 12:50 amI managed to get some BBS lookalike alloys, which I had refurbed by Lepsons in Gillingham, Kent. with San Marino Blue centres to match the bodywork, which I think is going to work, they have come out really well.

They will still be getting the original Alpinas off my car when I get round to that also as I have seen a set done by them and they did well.

I have heard that about splits from someone else, I know they used to do them, give them a ring and ask why.
Mine are fake splits, solid wheels, maybe that's what the difference is.

Finally a bit more progress on the M-Tech 2 tailgate spoiler, picked up two finished prototypes from Nick at the printers, having had dissapointing results with Polyeurathane versions expanding and distorting once out of the mould, we have a fibreglass version and a rubber coated version, that fit well.
Two already off for painting to see how they turn out.
Hopefully I can get a few more done either in fibreglass or a rubber coated form, once we are confident with the finish.
Unlike the cheap Lithuanian copies these are moulded from an original, and fit properly so you can still open the tailgate.
