Hi All

I am new to the Zone. I purchased my little 1993, K plate facelift, 318i lux convertible at the end of August 2021. Its completely standard(almost oem apart from aftermarket stereo and poorly fitting exhaust backbox), painted in Lagoon green, with full grey leather interior, sat on 15' alloys. I had seen the car on a few occasions as it lived a few roads away from my old house and I actually knew the previous owner. Then last year I found out he had placed it in an auction as he had lost his storage space - not really needing another BMW (I already owned 4 others!) I thought I would put a bid on and if it didnt go above what I was prepared to pay then it would be coming home with me. As chance would have it, it came home! Bizarre as it had lived 2 minutes walk from my old house for over 3 years and now I was off on a 4-5 round trip to bring it back from the auction (i had bid online without seeing it up close)

Its got a few minor niggles and needs a bit of tlc but for a near 30 year old car its a good solid base - not got the all the usual rust in the usual places. I have Initally completed a couple of quicks wins last year - had the dent man go round it and remove a few bulllet holes, purchased a new oem chrome front kidney grill removing the black one and an aftermarket 'eyebrow', installed a new genuine bonnet badge and Msport genuine BMW gear knob (yes its a manual :-) ) Next plans are to sort the crunching noise when turning on full lock for a slow pull away or parking manovure (I welcome feedback from the Guru's on here what that might be), someone mentioned possibly power steering fault? Then a bush refresh and suspension upgrade.

I also have some sorting out to do on the roof. 3 small minor tears, despite it being fully replaced in 2016. I believe it is also half electric half manual. The rear lid didnt sit flush originally and took a bit of gentle persuasion. I need to speak to a vert Guru as someone removed parts of the mechanism which I am guessing helped the roof fold down. I have the two bars (rods) but they are no longer attached, I have looked up the diagram from real oem but not sure of their purpose, so at some point need to consider refitting these or not.

Later on I would really like to transplant a straight six under the bonnet - but thats 2023 and possibly beyond..

Does anyone know of any e30 meets happening this year? It would be good to see some of you based in the UK.

Nice score.
Looks like a very tidy starting point.
Welcome to the green convertible club :thumb:

Keeping it true to original may be worth more £ in the long run - but probably not as much fun as modding & tinkering.

Keep the pics coming.

Welcome to the zone, very nice cab,the electric roofs were unfortunately never very reliable but in my opinion it would be worth trying to get it working even if it’s just for originality. If you wanted a new roof, I used the guys the (Chesington branch,) in 2016 and they did a superb job https://www.carhood.com/. Just my opinion, when you put the 325i engine in KEEP the 318i because if and when you come to sell the next owner maybe the sort of person who wants originality. As for meets have a look here viewforum.php?f=5
One other thing, more pics please, interior, engine, etc.
