Cabriolet - Knocking/slapping noise from right rear

I just replaced my fuel filler boot, and discovered the fuel expansion tank. I've been have this mysterious loose knocking noise on even tiny bumps that sounded like something loose in rear panel. Now I suspect it could be coming from the expansion tank area. I've felt around it but can't seem to find anything. Should I remove trunk liner to investigate? I've heard there could be something inside the tank moving about? Many thanks as this is driving me mad.
