The gas pedal - is it one from the E46?
the pedal in keith's came from an e60 m5.
but if you check the part number on realoem you'll see the same pedal is fitted to most bmw's. it's pretty generic.

I haven't done an update for a while, my 'winter project' this year has been upgrading the front brakes, I had the Wilwood bias pedal box with e46 M3 front brakes described in previous posts.

Image

I always felt the brakes could have been better, i initially fitted an in line servo to the front brakes, before the servo was fitted I struggled to 1000 p.s.i. in the front brakes , the rears would make 1500 p.s.i with full rear bias..

Image

After a lot of aggravation and about 50 attempts to bleed the front brakes i discovered that the front master cylinder was defective, I fitted a slightly larger one which should have reduced the system pressure but actually raised it to 1200 p.s.i. , with the servo in circuit I could make 1600 p.s.i,
The car now stopped better, even with the original e46 M3 setup.
Time for these,

Image

They are 8 series Brembo 4 pots which bolt directly on to the M3 struts but require a small spacer behind the e46 M3 disc to clear the track rod end, they were stripped, blasted, painted the correct Brembo red ( Fiat rosso tiziano )and treated to new pistons, seals and stainless fittings and ferodo fast road / track pads.

New 2 peice e46 M3 discs were also fitted,

Because of the width of the Brembos I had to source e46 style 5's which have a higher offset so I could fit a spacer to clear the calipers. these will do for now but i plan on sourcing some AC schnitzer / Hartge splits

Image

The car now stops much better with a firm pedal, I have also treated it to a set of Yokohama ad08r tyres, these have really sharpened up the handling.

A current pic of the car

Nice work Keith.

Ive got the AD08R's on my M3 all be it in 225/45/16 and they are simply epic!

I don't say this lightly but they are the best tyres for dry grip ive ever had on a car and they are ok in the wet as well.

Great on track as well!

I have just been putting petrol in and driving it lately, so not much to report, I recently treated it to a new rear M3 badge. The old ones, particularly the 'M' were starting to look their age.

There are several guides online to give the correct spacing.

A few current photos from a Birmz mini meet a few weeks ago;

Fitted some porsche brembo 4 pots to match the fronts.

To fit 294mm e46 328i discs on to a M3 E30 the Adapter 294-6B is the right one.

https://www.300mm.de/product_info.php?products_id=183

The 294x19mm rear discs for M3 E30 trailing arms come from e46 328i with part number BMW 34 21 1 165 563

The Porsche calipers must have the part numbers: 996.352.421 and 422 .
The calipers must be boxter ones. Confusingly some 996 rear calipers have the same part number but larger pistons.
The anodized grey boxter 2.7 calipers are the correct ones. NOT the boxter S red ones !

This is what I like about the e30, you can go from the ridiculas (in a VERY good way ) to a car like my Baur which most people hate.
But we dont give a damn because they are ours .

I hope you drive this ...........

Mart.
Only the E46 cab left now.
Just got too old.
