Through I'd create a topic for my e30 :) - From Serbia

The car was a standard 320i and I bought it as a 2.7l with an ETA crank and ETA head, the head was changed to a 885 head and a sports cam. It also didn't posses the Mtech stuff, but I did source original parts. The car needs to be resprayed.

A supercharger is planned as well as custom height adjustable coilovers.

I have added A/C, retrofited for r134a, OBC II with indicator stalk, read electric windows, wide angle wing mirror, sports seats, mtech map light mirror.

The cluster was a home made job and the wheels where a "find" as they are staggered Alpina 16"

Many things have been changed either out of necessity or for items in better conduction

Image

As close to the state as I bought it, with 15" OZ wheels

Image

home made cluster, it was calibrated by me (with GPS) and general traffic comparison

Image

getting ready for coilovers

Image

alpina wheels

Image

New locks and plexiglass stickers

Image

Image

A good point to note, that almost right after this, a 5th Alpian wheel was found, to add as a spare.

With a s50b30 powered e30 (the brakes are huge - made using range rover parts)

Wheel needs to be re-trimmed
Image
The headlights a bullseye - smoked

I also have a leather gear knob, but it is broken and the leather is far too gone

Also, this is a DD and is taking time to get things done :)

@Mitchen
Cheers mate, the car is a little dark but for now I'll keep the black grill and try and find/make yellow fog lights

@BMW_E30vert
The coupe with the rover brakes is on a 5 studs. Ill send you a PM with details and links (in Serbian) so that you can see what was done.

Thanks :)

this was mostly due to the shocks being done, poor roads and the fact the the springs were old to begin with.

Shocks are KONI 86-2277Sport

So some time has past, and I have been messing about with the axles as they had play. I bough some new SKF ones as the reman. ones have trouble fitting.

Image
Image

as some of you may see, the end that does to the diff flange is for the e36 diff flange. This was changed out, using the old e30 style ones from the old pair.

While there and going to the trouble. I changed the splash plates

Image

Along with rear wheel bearings and new clips.

So while I had everything off I changed the tail shaft/ prop shaft bearings. Nothing magical. But I had been noticing a slip in the clutch with hard acceleration, from 3rd to 4th. So decided to change that as well. This time for something with a bit more bite

Image
Image

Its supposedly a stage 2 clutch kit, I can see that it was LuK but the manufacturer states that this is strengthened. I assume this is an increase in the fingers on the pressure plate. It also seems that the clutch plate is of "better" material.

Furthermore, I was going to set the cam timing correctly - so I bought a vernier pulley/adjustable cam pulley

Image

So after I changed all the driving stuff like the clutch and added a brass clutch fork pivot pin (got one made locally). Changed all the rear bearings and axles - and noticed that the parking/hand brake cables were stuffed. I went off to get the cam pulley done.

This was the biggest change in performance that I had noticed after the car became a proper 2.7 with a 2.5 head. The can accelerates smoothly and idle is much better.

So the next project was seeing what to do with the rear springs. The ones I had were too soft. So some 550lbs/inch or 8.9kg/mm where in order. AVO 6" and 550lbs/inch. Some polyamide guides and retainers were made up.

Image
Image
Image

turns out the guides and platforms were too long. This needs to be revisited. Currently on e36 compact TA Tehnix rear coilovers - too soft for me.

This is about the time brake stuff came in. New cables PAGID, ATE Power Disks and Pas. With ware sensors. And new ATE springs and retainers for the handbrake shoes. Also ATE.

Image
Image
Image

As of now I am waiting for Saturday for my car to go to paint :) This is when the MT2 rear spoiler will have a mold made, everything put in place.

Till then I bid you adieu

Thanks, I don't have the habbit of taking photos while working on the car.

The few remaining big items that should see the car as factory as I want it are.

Body work - should be plenty of photos from the body/repair guy as he restores bikes and cars as well as being an Alfa enthusiast.

Headliner - needs to be redone, the usual issue with the touring, its sagging. This will be done in black. I already have black sun visors.

Grearbox rebuild - too large of a job for me, there is a guy here that manufacturers transmissions, going to ask him.

HLWW - getting the motors rebuilt by a good friend of mine. Trying to locate the lowest price for the blades.

Redo the sterring wheel - not a biggie, just needs to be done

Try and aquire cruise control - maybe just not have this option :)

At the very end add a S/C - Then get someone to map it. Maybe make a road trip somewhere in the EU. :) missing a waterpump and piping. Also most of what I need is in storage. From the XJ6R intake with injectors, M70 intake, RRFPR and some odds and ends for mounting the S/C.

Stay tuned

Hope you've sorted those fuses out by now! It would be a pity for all your hard work to go up in flames because of an over rated fuse.
I can see at least three incorrect ones in your pics.

Haven't had a good look at the fusebox, should take a look when I have some free time. Thus far it hasn't missed a beat. However as you say, it would be a shame. Thanks for pointing it out.

The oil temp gauge is currently not setup as i could not find an anti-clockwise sweep gauge. So I ended up buying an e36 M3 cluster to remove the gauge/step motor, took it out and added the e30 style needle. Problem is I haven't got around to installing it.

The cluster is part motometer part VDO, the km/h is motometer and has a 300km/h odd limit. This is calibratted and reads correctly - as the motormeter speedometer has a potentiometer or pot on it from the factory. The rest of the gauges are the VDO ones that came with the car. The faces and needels are a homage to the e30 M3 cluster. It was a trail and error thing and it works ok. Just needs more work to have it spick and span :)

Evidently, while messing around with this stuff I need to take a look see regarding the fuses.

Also thank you guys for the compliments

Hahahaha, had the headlining retrimmed by a professional. I have no pictuers of that being done. I have 2 pictures of the headlining in the dark greay black foam cloth sitting on a table... I needed 5 hands to put it back in the car but made do with 2 and my head, this was on the spot in the car park :) if you need details of how it comes off I can write it down step by step in detail. Note that the tabs on the c and d pillar covering trim pieces are prone to breaking.

Yes, the mtech 2 parts are way too expensive and I don't see them getting any cheaper. Also the £1500 you may spend to get all the trim you need is just part of the cost. There is likly a need for minor repair work, painting as well as new gaskets, clips and bits. I bought mine for less that £600 back in the day. It stood in storage for almost 2 years before I got around to adding bits and bobs, a weekend at a time.

The time has come to try and turbo this thing, the plan is:

KKK K27.2 - remove the waste gate for an external one
Use in tank fuel pump
keep the a/c and an ok size front mount, without cutting into the body
3" stainless exhaust
emu ecumaster stand alone
650cc injectors
ARP head studs
run coil near plug

most of the items have been acquired, just need to get the stuff together and then get it mapped. The goal is ~300hp ~450nm anything above this is a bonus. Also doing this type of stuff in my neck of the woods isn't as simple as you cannot just go to the shops and buy it.... :(

So to start a bunch of things have been bought. Rather than bore you with that I will move to what is being done.

An ebay T3 turbo manifold without wastegate prevision
Image

Although this is apparently a cheap turbo manifold, it is made well enough and it seems that other forums say that it will hold up to some abuse. Furthermore a friend of mine who built an m20 turbo drift car advises that they do the job.

To add to that he advised that some modification needs to be made as the holes for the flange do not line up. I was told that the easiest way to do this is to make a cut between the 3rd and 4th cylinder exhaust ports.

I on the other had used the supplied gasket to see what was going on (it lines up on the manifold perfectly)

Image
Image

Here is where it marked with the holes need to be elongated. You can see that with the holes for the studs lined up, the ports do not. So the quick fix cutting the flange is a no go.

Image

So we transferred the modification to the flange and kept making changes and test fitting to make sure all the holes lined up.

Image

Also turbo placement

Image

This is where we can see that the k27.2 will be close to the head. So we decided to check if we can get to the spark plugs.

Image
Image
Image

Also just to make sure, we tried with a spark plug

Image

Anyway, the 3k borg warner turbo has a strange T3 flange and is an internal wastegate twinscroll. I will not be utilizing the twinscroll aspect, not the wastegate. So the flange needs to be adapted and the wastegate wielded shit.

Image

The gasket is a T3 and we can see that the turbo flange is elongated. New holes for studs need to be made.

Image

So for anyone looking into this, under this screw cap is the wastegate flap. It has all been removed.

Anyway, a 45mm wastegate will be used, and a provision for the same will be made.

Image

Also just to add, the exhaust flange:

Image

Which is for T4 GT35 T3/60-1 GT3582R fits without issues.

Apologies the the poor quality images, smudged the phone and ended up having blurry pictures.

Moving to making the exhaust and down pipe, wg provision and adding a fuel pump.
