The ticking is still there, so going to flush the system again and use some synthetic stuff. Failing that it's just going to be put down to "one of those things"SeanOB wrote:looking good and encouraging to see that the old car handles the road trip after sitting for a bit too. Did you ever get rid of the ticking?
the new plastic bumper strips must make a big difference in the freshen-up.... mine are looking their age.
The bumper trims look ace now, but the lower window trims and one door trim let the side down, I'll get around to these in a few months. Hopefully Brutus can sort me out with a piece of the puzzle

Not much to report, but as I've been out of work it would be rude not to carry out a few odd jobs.
There is a lack of pictures this time I'm afraid.
The front discs felt a bit warped, so the car was dropped at GotBoost in Pile to get the discs skimmed. It was pretty interesting to watch actually. I think this was caused by a sticky caliper which I've been addressing.
With the car up in a 4 post lift I had a nose under it.
Unfortunately the n/f spring had snapped, hence the choppy ride. So 2 new 425lb items were ordered from Faulkner.
It was pointed out that the front bearings were a little noisy. There was no play in them but the technician seemed to think they'd cause a noise on the run, so these were also ordered.
And one last issue to sort would be a split rear CV gaiter, and to make sure I wasn't redoing all of this work down the line I ordered 2 new rear bearings.
With all this pampering you'd like to think the car would reward me with a few months of trouble free motoring.... ooooh no!
A slight clicking noise has gradually gotten worse, it's only covered 50 ish miles since noticing it as I didn't want anything catastrophic to break or get worse.
At first I thought it could be the front arch liners catching the tyres, so I trimmed these back slightly. But after hanging out of the window on a private road it sounds like it's coming from the rear.... GREAT! I think it's possibly the Diff, so will have to remove it for investigation.
With the car being unroad worthy, I got around to painting up the bottom window trims. The door trims were easy enough, popped off, scotched, primed, painted with Satin black and pushed back into place. The pop out windows were another matter. I masked them up carefully and Nitromors'd all of the old paint off. Once they were back to the weathered chrome finish they were also primed and painted. I'm over the moon with the results... I fitted the drivers door trim that came from Brutus too, mine was faded and we'll passed it, weird the only 1 piece of trim would do that, but never the less, it looks as good as new now

Here's a before and after pic of the window trims. I guess originally they weren't prepped before being painted.
As I had just been trying to mask the shame of the mess until this point, it was just falling off too. Front pieces were easy, just gently gently with a cloth covered flat blade and they popped off.

Unfortunately no pictures of them being removed and carefully nitromors'd, which was pretty time consuming, but looking good if I do say so myself

I wanted to remove the from seats to give the car a good vacuum and got carried away...

Got the rear shelf back to black, and painted up the vents and belt runners in satin black

Fitted these cheeky little buggers I've had a for a while

I got the clocks out as the odometer stopped clocking the milage. Started removing more and more until I found the culprit. A stripped gear.

The gear has been removed here

A new set of gears were ordered from geartastic in the US
I guess I've been doing all of this to put off the inevitable diff removal. Now the weather has turned for the worse, I'm starting to think that was a bad idea hahaha

Thank you sir... looking forward to fitting those door cards, as you can see, my rear ones are from a convertible
Today, made hay whilst the sun shone, and got the diff off

It came out suprisingly easy, once I removed the 2 bolts on top of it. I was also please to note the big S painted on the underside and 3.something ratio

I'll be dropping this down to Martin Emmette aka Hotgolf this week to get inspected, and repaired (hopefully, it's a reasonably easy/cheap fix)

Diff came back with new seals, no damage or anything untoward was found on the internal inspection. Which was a relief.
With it on a work bench I got the pollyflex bush shoehorned in. Which at first seemed impossible, until I realised the metal sleeve left by the OE bush was still stuck in the way.... d'oh!

Filled it up with some new Castrol, and got on with fitting the bugger. Easy work, and quite satisfying removing and fitting this beast.

Once everything was nipped up it was taken out for a test drive, no more noises from the rear, so not sure what was causing it
