Perhaps you did. I bought it from a guy in Northampton. Would like to know more history to be honest. Would like to know who did what to it. Think it was owned by a couple of members on here.

good work Jim.
i prefer the replacement indicator lenses and sides. will you swap the headlight rings for non h/l/w/w ones?
more pics of the finished interior please. you recoloured (not redyed) the original Cardinal Red obviously. did you recolour the door and rear cards too? :)

I'll do more pics of the interior once it is all up and running and I have a chance to do a full detail.

I don't understand what you mean by the difference between redying and recolouring. I redyed on top of the original cardinal using Gliptone dye which filled in the cracks and covered the scuffs,

i meant recolouring the existing colour as opposed to dyeing it a different colour

15" BBS WITH CHROME EFFECT POWDERCOAT APRIL 2014

I haven't updated this in a year but spring is here an I have renewed enthusiasm so here are a few things that has changed on the car.

Last year I swapped my Alpina reps for a set of Standard 15" BBS Alloys. Although the ride difference was improved tremendously they were in a flaky corroded state and I didn't realise it at the time but all the tyres were wrong. I got a price for a full refurb but the cost was ridiculous and I may as well have gone out and bought a set in good condition. So I found a local powder coating company that do wheels for £45 per wheel. I paid £55 per wheel as I wanted them chrome effect. Now they are by no means concourse standard but the result is astonishing considering what state they were in before.

BBS FITTED WITH NEW TOYO PROXES April 2014

I have finally splashed out and bought a brand new set of Toyo's for my BBS wheels went a bit nuts with the camera.

Overall cost for anyone interested, straight swap for my Alpina reps (estimated value £150 as the tyres were good), £10 to remove old wrong size tyres, £220 to refurb wheels, £250 for tyres, £40 for tyre fit and wheel balance. Total £670, OUCH! 8O

Anyway, took the car out for a drive and it was simply superb, world of difference to the 17" Alpina copies. Anyone considering ditching aftermarket wheels for OEM, DO IT!

NEW BOSCH BATTERY & ENGINE BAY TIDY UP April 2014

I have slowly been getting the car closer to the way BMW intended it to be and I have splashed out the proper size battery. It makes quite a difference to the look of the engine bay to have a quality item under there. Before I could fit that I had to sand back the rusty battery tray and treat with rust stopper. It has now been treated to a coat of hammerite. Last year I deleted the headlight wash system and have never been happy with still having the twin bottle so I have also replaced that with a single bottle. Whilst I was in that area I decided to have a go at cleaning up the paintwork in the bay as it was covered in a coat of yellowing wax. I don't know if this was from the factory or someone had done it but it was looking bad so I got a little scraper out then some cutting paste. It came out not bad but needs more detail to make it really good.

UNVIVERSAL POWERFLOW FOR E30 SCORPION EXHAUST April 2014

My next job is to replace the universal Powerflow backbox for a proper E30 Scorpion DTM. I have never liked the look, fit or sound of the powerflow item and I'm hoping the larger Scorpion silencer will give a better and perhaps quieter noise. its not my first choice as I would like a straight exit one but this was a good price at £70. The middle section is getting replaced too as the old one was leaking. It will be getting fitted with proper sealing rings and sleeve clamps as opposed to the cheap U clamps that damage the pipe.

REPLACEMENT CARPET CLEANING April 2014

More stuff due to be sorted in the coming months. My grubby and torn old carpets have to go and thanks to Colin AKA Topblag from fife who has sorted me out with a better item for a bargain price. The intention is to dye them black before they go into the car. I have already shampooed, steam cleaned and jet washed them and are currently hanging in the garage drip drying. They were just as minging as you would expect a 25 year old carpet to be but I think they have come up great. Perhaps someone can tell me is these are normal pile or the plusher pile?

CD43 HEAD UNIT AND OEM ELECTRIC AERIEL
April 2014

Another quick catch-up from a couple of jobs I did late last year. I installed an entire E34 stereo loom so I could fit this CD43 head unit. This one is from a Rover but its the same as a BMW unit. I'll remove the logo at some point. I personally think its the most suited single din head unit for any 80's/90's BMW. I have one in my E34 as well and they are excellent quality. I have also installed a 3.5mm aux in jack via the CD changer port. I also fitted a digital voltmeter after having alternator issues last year which left me stranded a couple of times. Still need to finish it off with a tidy bezel.

Image

As the head unit was sorted I needed to complete the setup with a decent aerial. I tried an aftermarket one but it whistled in the airflow so I found an original E30 electric one and I'm much happier with it. I wired it via a window cut off switch which lets me manually retract the mast when I'm listening to the iPod.

Thank you, I think it's a cracking colour combo too. The red will stand out even more with darker carpets and I'm thinking adding chrome trim along the windows and on the horseshoe cover which would look good between the black and red.

REPLACEMENT ROOF April 2015

2015, spring is here and I have some new enthusiasm for the car.

I travelled 300 miles to pick up a roof in excellent condition from Mick AKA Magpie. This was the most cost effective way for me to do this as a new roof fitted in Scotland is 780 quid. Bloody rip off when you can get it done in England for 550.

So I spent the afternoon, in between April snow showers fitting it. I know blue doesn't really suit the car but I will probably dye it come the better weather and polish the rear window. Spent a bit of time tidying up the roof storage bay too with a bit of hoovering, cleaning and glueing.

FITTING CHROME TRIM April 2015

Another job today, I felt the black paint and red leather would look good with a bit of chrome between them. I don't think I was wrong!

E34 TOOLKIT & HEADLIGHT RINGS & FUEL VENT PIPE REPLACEMENT May 2015

Been pottering with the car this week and have added a couple of little bits. Have replaced the E30 toolkit with a larger E34 one, easiest mod ever and the old one is now a decoration in the garage.

As I have deleted the headlight wash system I had bought some non wiper headlight rings that I intended painting and fitting. However I have discovered that with a little tweak to the E30 lights the E34 chrome ones fit.

Finally, I've been needing to do this job for a while now. Never been able to fill my car up fully at the petrol pump as it made a bit of a mess on a couple of occasions. No wonder when you see the state of the over flow pipe. Swapped it over today with a genuine BMW hose. Apparently it's a unique diameter and really difficult if you buy standard hose. The job took me less than 30 mins which I was not expecting.

May 2015
Thanks MPOWERCRAZY. Was starting to think nobody ever read my thread. Anyway, the sun came out today, a rare occurence up here in the North of Scotland, and I couldn't resist taking a couple of pics. The chrome really makes a difference to me.

CARPET DYING AND REPLACE May 2015

A job that has been waiting for a nice sunny day to do. Last year I bought a second hand carpet to replace my scruffy torn one. I shampooed and steam cleaned it and today I set about dying it. Now I knew I wasn't going to get it jet black but I would have been happy with dark grey which goes with the red leather a bit better. However the dye I used dried to a very dark blue. I actually really like it and by coincidence it matches the blue roof I just fitted. I think this car is trying to come up with its own colour scheme. Anyway, pictures tell the story better.

ROOF DYING May 2015

Back to the roof today, it really was too blue for the car so I dyed it with the same stuff as the carpets. It still has a blue tint but now much greyer and less of a clash with the diamond schwartz paint. Here are the before, during and afters.

AFTERMARKET ALARM REMOVAL June 2015

What started out as an OBC retrofit has turned into major surgery to remove the tumour that is the aftermarket Clifford alarm. I've always hated this alarm. It works ok but it blips and chirps at every opertunity, it goes off and deafens me everytime i reconnect the battery and generally just a pain in the arse. Worst of all is how untidy it is under the dash. I tried to neaten it all up to make room for the OBC but I just ended up with a knotted mess in the footwell. So, out it comes!

Starting to look a but neater now

I'm about halfway, still need to connect a lot of wires on the main loom, put the window switches back to normal and reconnect the ignition coil wiring in the engine bay. There is also a large amount of cabling that goes to the rear or the car so need to lift the carpets and back seats.

I appreciate the comment and encouragement. The loom is back together an the car starts. Just doing a big tidy up of the loom, refitting the stereo neatly and then the OBC. New update to follow shortly
