Well after many sundays my car is now ready for the paint shop to do their magic.
All jacking points seem good, but we found some rust as expected.

Many thanks to Bass for the tip on removing the under bonnet sound insulation it saved a lot of time.

The car will have a complete re spray in the orignal colour 203 Lach Silver the body shop have estimated about 4 weeks.[/img]

I'm about to put a bonnet into painting, 90% of the foam has come off by hand but there's the sticky stuff left against the bonnet that's next. Was going to attack is soon - is Toyota Brake Cleaner specifically what I need or would any brake cleaner do ?
I've got brakes to do on a toyota anyway so an indication of how much I need would be useful and if it should be pressurised or not (not sure what the options are).

No main dealer Toyota was shut on Sunday morning so went for Comma Brake Cleaner, just sprayed on and scraped off with windscreen scraper, then wiped with a rag job done!

Me & Meatballs82 did the old removal of the glue on his bonnet last week. Used something another zoner gave me in a bottle. Took us bloody ages... Didnt knwo about the brake cleaner!
Then, after about 2 hours we finished, he descides to go into his garage and find some 'VW adhesive/glue substance remover'... C0ck...

Didnt get to try that stuff though as we had already done the hard work.

I'm going to try the comma stuff, if that doesn't work, I'll try the toyota stuff.

That looks to be in fine fettle as is. Get checking in the drivers inner arch, this is the hot spot they go on all the brackets that are welded on for the fuel breather system
Low miler? Looks to have that air of originalness no ones fu*ked about with it too much thing going on

I bought the car last year from the original owner, who kept every invoice ever spent on the car, he had it for 22 years when I went to collect the car it was in his garage under blankets a very lucky find.

I have been thinking about changing the interior to leather, and fitting an Alpina Steering wheel.

As long as the brake cleaner is solvent based and not water based it will do the job.
BMW brake cleaner is useless and i happened to find the Toyota stuff in an aerosol tin worked perfectly.
Looks like Francoise has found Comma brake cleaner to be just as effective.

The car is most certainly an unmolested looking car and quite a find in this day and age.
If you want a leather interior i take it you want an indigo blue one as that's what colour trim you have now but if you want another colour it means a carpet swap.
Either way, finding a nice original BMW leather trim in any colour in a nice condition to do your car justice will be nigh on impossible.
Nice original BMW leather trims are like hens teeth now sadly but they are all 20+years old.
I'd be inclined to keep the cloth as it looks to be in mint condition.

Well worth considering imho. Your seats look excellent. Its supriseing how an interior can make/break a car.

Yes the car came from Cooper Thames Dutton, I have the original sales invoice and a letter from the dealer after the customer purchased the car to inform him of a price increase, could BMW get away with that now.
As for the leather interior I have seen some re-trims by B Trim and if I went for it yes I would choose Indigo Blue.

TBH, waxoil although a brand name it can also be considered a generic name for a product now as there are plenty of anti rust waxes out there.
Ive used a mix of BMW's own cavity wax, Renaults Ixel cavity wax and clear waxoil on my E30.
Dinitrol is meant to be good as well.
Nice progress by the way Andrew.

Thanks for the interest, most of the body work is now finished and the car is sat in primer in the work shop waiting for a new bonnet to arrive from Germany, which unfortunately is out of stock.
The front of the car has also been removed to be sand blasted and painted, also the radiator is coming out next week to paint around the inside.
I will update with pictures soon!!!!!!
