Finally got my smoked crosshairs done and fitted today, turned out pretty well for saying I made the crosshairs myself winkeye decided to stick in some yellow main beam bulbs as well to replicate some lights I saw on r3v. Let me know what you think!! :D

So today I got round to fitting the golf vr6 splitter I ordered a while ago, to cut a long story short it was a waste of time or money, it self destructed before I had made it off the 2" tall wooden ramps I use to get the jack under the car!

Image

Now in the market for a genuine IS splitter, will teach me for being a tight arse!

I picked up an IS splitter from jonny323i, it was royal blue so didn't quite match the car and it wasn't immaculate anyway so decided to spray it satin black, very happy now just to get the SE skirts on :)

Thought I better update this as some progress is getting underway and I want to keep a record of it for myself and anyone else who's intereted..

So I picked up this.

Image

Because I wanted this.

Image

And this is basically where I am now.

Image

Hoping to get the car inside soon to start stripping it down for the swap, my intentions are to keep costs down by doing most of the work myself. So far I've stripped down the E36 and sold enough parts for it to have paid for itself which I'm pretty happy about, the m52 is out, I've got an m50 manifold ready to go on and my e34 sump is on its way and so is my m20 lightened flywheel.

I've still got a pretty big shopping list but I'm slowly gathering parts bit by bit and the car won't be going back on the road until spring so I'm not going to rush anything.

Not a lot of progress from my last post so far due to work but the E36 vert is now well and truly dead as I've scavenged most of the parts worth selling from it so it's off to the scrappers early this week

Image

I've got the seats stripped out of the 30 and started taking a few other bits off to get the engine ready to come out and so I can start hunting for the brown stuff! I've got a bit of time off this week so hopefully I should be able to crack on with stripping it down and might even get the engine out. :D

Right I'll post some updates as this thread kind of dried up, basically I had been too busy working to make much progress with the car so my hopes of getting it on the road for this summer are quickly fading away!

But! I have made some big steps over the last couple of months, I'll let the pictures do the talking...

Cut out any un-needed brackets and re-sprayed the bay

Image

Image

Brought these...

Image

Oh and these....

Image

Got this in...

Image

Then just as I thought I could see the light at the end of the tunnel, I found this!

Image

And that's where I'm at now, had most of this week off work and I've spend it in my rear wheel well, good times!

When that's done the rear subframe is polybushed and painted, with e36 Ti trailing arms all ready to bolt back on.

Thanks! The drivers side rear inner arch was a mess but I've got most of it sorted now just waiting for the main panel from the dealers to finish it off.

After that it just needs underselling and sending off to the body shop for paint!

I've made some more progress over the last couple of days, going to try and keep this thread updated now.

I've been busy welding in the rear drivers side arch, still waiting for the main inner arch panel but there was plenty of the brown stuff to tackle in the mean time! Also started stripping down the bbs as I'm going to get the centres powder coated a different colour..

I know you guys love rust pics..

And after (this has since been zinc primed, and is awaiting seam sealer)

Looking good there, just enough excess weld removed also. Few coats of acid etch primer followed by a seal seal and some rubber based stone chip and you'd never know it was repaired

Thanks, I'm no welding expert but this car has been a steep learning curve! There was a lot of welding to be done around the front arches, battery tray and footwells too but I didn't take photos while I repaired those bits.

What size pipe did you use there?

I've got GREAT rust pics too....
Five plates to the inner then the outer inner panel then the outer arch! Can't get them up to show!

Great work so far.......

Not sure on the exact size it was just an old peice of pipe I had lying about in my garage that was a similar size to the original.

Cheers! Done abit more today, got the 5 stud kit (spindle spacer and calliper bracket) fitted to the Coilovers, just need to paint the callipers and I'll post up some pics.

As promised, pictures of the 5 stud kit I'm using for the front.

To me this seems like the best option so you don't have to worry about the geometry changing and the handling being effected, and it's probably cheaper than sourcing any e36 m3 evo or e30 m3 parts!

Really easy to fit, the only messing about you have to do is grind a little bit of the calliper carrier away but that wasn't any trouble. I'll be running the 328 front brakes from the vert I broke up for the engine, on the back I'll be using the trailing arms and brakes from an e36 compact. :D
