the Build is going slow at the moment. Always something more important (picking up new bits etc). The sport has thrown a few things at me the last fortnight such as handbrake bolts pulling through the backing discs and tonight the drivers door lock sheared and disassembled its self in situ leaving the car deadlocked in works car park. So I have since spent the night breaking in, getting home and replacing it with a spare (from the S50 as it happens) but I had to swap everything around so it worked with the same keys etc, so that pretty much bolloxed up tonights efforts at an early finish from work.

Otherwise, quick status update.

Things to do on 318i shell:

....get exhaust and prop off
....remove diff and rear end gubbings (brakes and driveshafts, petrol tank etc)
....remove front panel and salvage what wiring and hoses I can in the process
....remove engine (which will then let me get the heater box out of the interior
....remove all other S50 related gubbings (wiring etc)
....remove all other morsels (battery boot wiring etc)
....prep shell for weighbridge (front and rear subframes off along with all suspension brakes etc)

Things to do on M3:

....clean up engine bay
....sort interior (carpets in etc)
....prep car for motor going in (make sure fuel pumps are correct etc)

Things to do on S50 motor:

....New oil seals and gaskets all around
....new oil/water pumps etc as appropriate
....New clutch
....ARP bolts on bottom end if necessary

Then bolt it all together and it should work (although engine's with 0 mileage need some running in  )

P.s., thanks for all the kind words guys, but looking at the time and money involved in some of this it may take more than a few weeks.

Nope, but the Bank of Dad decided that my credit rating was good enough to pass the criteria for 0% interest. Under the circumstances it would have been rude... almost criminal in fact, not to take up such an offer :D

Lucky boy! A brand spanker under the bonnet and a nice spares lump sat in the corner. Paying that bank back a tenner a week here and there forever but not actually fully compensating the original loan - classic parent/kid relationships are great!

None, been at work 6 days a week at the moment (well, since before xmas) so haven't had chance to get anything done to be honest. I haven't even been on here since 2011 except occasionally checking in with the rest of the team etc. However, my free time is a little better at the moment so hopefully this summer should see me get the two donks sorted and the old chassis rid of at the very least. Any more before the snow sets in is a bonus :o

Great story fella, good to hear you and the engine were fine afterwards. Pretty lucky you crashed into a sloped hill rather than a straight wall, might be a different story.!
