Haha indeed. I always thought the little rubber ones were no good. Lucky this still has MOT, not that it matters, think the last MOT tester must of been a friend, plus it was Halfords.... 8O :roll:

the second steering wheel is exactly the same as a 323 bf turbo (face lift), they where demanding good money once apon a time in the 323 world, i still have some kicking about

Progress though, progress :P :) Haven't been on the computer much recently but got a few panels to get welded in, my daily needs preparation for a show on the 11th so busy with that at the moment :(

Hi mate

Ok, so I have had a look at your rust pics and I think it's easily fixable. I did something similar. I just systematically worked sections by section through the car cutting out rust and welding in new bits. It's a big job but doing it bit by bit makes it fun as you can see the progress. Yes, there will be plenty of times whe you have a serious word with yourself and ask if it is worth it, but bit by bit you will get there.

Some people on here will wonder if its all worth it for the model you have but many more people will think that is irrelevant, it's your car and your project, enjoy it!

Cut, shape, weld, trim, weld, flatten, prime

Again and again and again

So haven't been doing much recently, Fiesta's had some shows so been busy with that. Although I have been buying many parts and am now running out of space!

Went down to the garage yesterday to continue prepping the inside of the wings, got one zinc primered and going to go down today and finish it with Schultz. May start removing the old wings too (although the offside needs some welding behind the wing). But may try get the nearside off and clean up behind it. We'll see.

You may be able to tell in the photos the bottom of the wings all lumpy, thats due to an idiot covering the wing in mastic or something when they stuck on side skirts, once the wing is fitted I'll set about removing this. The wing flex's too much as it is.

The process I've been doing is wire brush and a blade to remove grime/wax/underseal, then treated any rust using Fertan, left for 24 hours and then wire brushed again and finished off with sand paper, the wings have then been zinc primered.

If I'm understanding your description correctly it may be related to the other side of the bulkhead.

There's a vertical plastic drain called the 'elephant's trunk' in the bulkhead that can get blocked.

Inner sill isnt too bad, its around the wiring you can see running along it.

And thanks Toby, shall check that out but found where it pokes through to, its just next to the battery tray inside the wheel arch (you can see the box section inside the wheel arch, its just to the left) so its relatively easy to repair luckily.

More progress to come soon :)

Fascinating stuff, some may say it's not worth fixing up but if you enjoy it and I assume like me you like 4 doors then what is there to lose?

Used Waxoyl myself, both the underseal stuff and the "oyl" rust preventer, underseal I painted on with a brush on the panels on the floor plan and the oyl sprayed through the hand pump contraption you could buy into the doors and inner body panels. Then reserved the vulnerable bits to Bilt Hambers Dynax S50 in a aerosol with a tube for the insides of the sills and in my case a Saab 900; the driveshaft tunnels which by the looks of it is the 900's equivalent of E30's scuttle rust...


Can get a huge sense of achievement once it's finished and driving it too. Look forward to more instalments
