as you can see the drivers wing will be replaced but the passenger wing can be repaired, afew clips are required for the body kit, and a pair of new rear inner arches will be required......keep watching people  [/img]

passenger rear arch welding in place and underseled, now to attack the drivers inner arch. the plan was to use the excess from the passenger rear arch to complete the drivers side, but after i removed the fuel filler neck and evap canister, it was abit more worse for wear. but luckily enough, bmw still supply panels so it was just a case of cutting that one out aswell.......awesome

thanks, plans are to put it back to how it was originally but with very minor modernization alternatives, ive got a set of american indicators which have the orange marker lights incorperated but ive altered them to represpent daytime running lights, it'll look smart i think as people fit these retro kits these days but they look nasty, but these are obviously part of the light, ive got an awesome new interior which i got from a chap in twickenham which are in amazing original condition (if your reading this, its graham i cant remember your name im afraid but i bought the seats off you from ebay). it will have xenons also.

its all ready been lowered but apart from that its staying the same mate really, keeping the wheels, keeping the body kit, no turbo conversions, no exhaust mods, no intake mods. it will be completly re-sprayed in original paint.

i just want to put it back to how people remember them really. :)

Get the carpet out and look inside the roof where the sunroof panel slides into.

Check both the roof and the floor pan and bulkhead for rot.

funny enough im just on the sunroof now, ive treated the roof from what i could see. the passenger side rail is fine but the drivers side rail could do with abit of treatment right at the back but how do you get to it? it looks like a sealed panel welded to roof? but more importantly how do i get the overhead lining off without stretching it?

The head lining comes out ok and doesn't stretch but all the glass needs to come out as does ever part of the sunroof.

The sunroof "tray" is bonded to the outer roof skin and also has a couple of brackets spot welded on mid way along the roof.

The "tray" is available new and separate from the roof skin so if your's is rust then a new one is the best course to take.

The original one rots because of poor protection with minimal paint, mostly primer and no cavity wax. When replacing a rusty one for a new one, this can all be remedied.

Nice work.. I look forward to seeing it back to its former glory! nice to see someone trying to keep it on the road rather than fraggng it (which is financially a bonus but I always think it's a bit sad..)

in this set of pics there is prob about 3 weeks work rebuilding the engine, i needed to change the sump gasket, and i read you can ''sort of'' do it in situe without lowering the subframe but this wasnt working for me. so i took the engine out.

its had new cambelt and tensioner, water pump, cam seals, rear main oil seal, dizzy cap, rotor arm, inlet manifold gasket, exhaust manifold gaskets, upon removal you'll see i took a picture of one of the exhaust outlets, and you'll see its abit oily :(

so needless to say i pulled the head off and removed all the valves and replaced all the valve guide seals. good job too as the state of the valve seats were....well take a look at the before and after valve pictures. lol

then the engine is rebuild back in the car. bonnet is replaced and the front bumpers are refitted with my DRL incorperated indicators. with the xenon headlights.

Looks like you're making good progress.

Your engine mounts look quite tired, if you've not replaced them already then I'd suggest replacing them with FP292's for a modest ammount from:

1) Helps to stop the fan eating the radiator when the mounts finally fail.
2) Keeps the driveline in line
3) Check the gearbox mounts whilst you're there.

quick update, here we have the new exhaust system fitted, it was a 'good' fit but i still had to make afew welding modifications to get it to fit perfectly, also with new brake pipes both solid and flexi pipes, new shoes, and new discs and pads to go wen shes just about to roll, other wise they will start to rust up.

rear bumper re-fitted with new mounts welded in. all work and pics taken on 2/3/2012

ok in these pics, ive moved it from the car port / tent which has upheld againt the weather very well to a hard ground, this is where the bodywork prep will start.

its the first time its moved and seen daylight in 7 months solid. as you can see from the previous pictures the drivers rear quater was very poorly painted in the past sometime, this will now need to be scrated back back by the painters to almost bare metal, as who ever painted it before didnt let the base coat go off correctly which then caused the top coat to crack and move as the the car moved around, i believe they call it 'pavestoning effect'.

the rest of the paint will be scratched back by me, to g600 then moved over to the painters.

ive started the bonnet as you can see...
