exhaust heat shield blasted then powder coated satin black.

Image

painted the large bonnet hinge and the radiator support and fitted them.

Then i finished the back of the bonnet off.

Thanks mate, i dont have a budget i've waited this long to get it to this level so money isnt an issue at the moment i'll worry about that when its finished and looking mint, then i'll do the sums and get a massive fright for a bit then i'll look at my immaculate sport and everything will be fine again lol

Yea all the parts that have been replaced are brand new genuine bmw parts, its the only way to go, putting non original parts on this car would be madness in my eyes.

It looks bloody amazing!!!!
The AFM was that used or the old one from the car?
How did you get the throttle bodies so clean?
I think you should right up a guide on cleaning engines or something?

You used
"I scotchbrite them with petrol to get all the crap off them then give them a light haze coat of matt black aerosol."

could brake cleaner not do the same thing?

Haha thanks very much buddy!!
I just removed the original AFM stripped it down cleaned it up with the good ol scotchbrite and petrol, painted it then stuck a brand new filter in it.

Your probably gona laugh at me here but where are the throttle bodies mate? sorry i suck when it comes to naming engine parts i just know how to make em look pretty. lol

Lol, you reckon? it just takes alot of graft, determination and a passion for E30's that has no limits lol

Hmm, good question buddy, i reckon brake cleaner would be a very good idea aswell, i've used petrol for years as a degreaser and a cleaner and its the dogs bollocks!

I meant the silver thing at the top with the BMW logo and six pipes or whatever that is called how did you get that clean?

Yeah i think you should put something up on cleaning engine bays?

How many miles/owners your Sport got? You got all the MOTs?

Ah the header manifold i think its called. I just scotchbrited it dry then painted it with high temp bright silver aerosol paint.

Might do that actually, sounds like a good idea mate.

Its done just over 101,000miles, i'm the third owner and i've got a lot of m.o.t's for the car but not all of em unfortunately.

Keep up the good work would love to see your Sport one day. Watch out for the rough winters in Scotland they play havoc on the car's chassis/body.

Thanks for the encouragment mate :) lol yea i know the salt they spread on the roads up here in the winter is a nitemare! It does it's job keeping cars on the road but it doesn't do the cars bodywork any favours what so ever! My sports going to be dry use only when it's finished.

I know its not an E30 but you will definately appreciate this!! Heres a pic up of my younger brothers engine bay on his old diamond white 3door sierra cosworth he sold a few months ago.

I thought my bay was good until i found this pic again, mine took me 2weeks my brother spent 3months to do his, its totally concourse and a work of art in my eyes.

Quick update on recent activity this week.

First up is my mint second hand windscreen that got installed on wednesday. When the chaps at motoglass removed the old one i asked how much a new one supplied and fitted would be, they said it would be £120 which is a bargain considering that also included the removal of my old tatty one! But obviously it wouldnt be a genuine bmw stamped windscreen so me being me said no thanks pal i'll get my own one.

Following that i proceeded to phone bmw again and got a price for a brand new green tinted E30 windscreen, £207 plus vat which i didn't think was to shabby, basically £250 delivered, so i went sod it i'll have one please so they ordered one from germany for me.

A week after that last sunday to be precise i went down to my local scrap yard with my mates for a rumage and a hunt for anything interesting. I went over to the bmw section as usual and noticed a new addition to the line up, a rather tidy looking zinnobar red 3door with an absoloutly pristine windscreen on it!! And it was green tinted and it was a genuine bmw stamped one too!!!

So out came the stanley knife and we cut the bugger out, grabbed it and went up to reception and asked how much? £10 plus vat!!!!!!!!!!! Erm yes please. Stuck it in the back of the car and started praying my new one i ordered hadn't left germany yet. So i called phoenix first thing monday morning to cancel my order but unfortunately it had already been shipped over but they let me cancel it as long as i paid for the shipping and handling charge which was £50. Bit of a bummer but i'd just saved myself £190. :D

Anyways enough chat here it is.

Image

Image

Image

I then got my rocker cover back from the shot blasters and painted that.

Image

primed.

Image

used this stuff its awesome.

Image

Image

Now the car was on the ramps at chizfab i had a quick look underneath and its nice and solid which i was delighted to find out. Then i thought to myself i could get the underside of this car looking pretty decent in an afternoon, so i proceeded to do so.

Here it is before i started, there was a spot of surface rust in some parts, nothing to major though. :)

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

I started off by removing the exhaust heatshields and other bits n bobs for cleaning/painting

Image

Image

Image

Image

I then wire brushed the whole underneath of the car then masked up the sides the fuel filter and the prop shaft.

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

With the prep done i grabbed the black shoots gun and went mental with the stuff! Then after it dried i re-fitted all the parts i'd just refurbished.

Heres the results.

Image

Image

Image

I did the rear end of the floor silver a few years ago so that didnt need touching as it was still mint. :)

Image

Image

Image

Thats all for another week i'll get it back on tuesday hopefully once the servicings done and the exhausts on then its rebuild time!!!

Update time again.

Heres all the new parts for fitting the exhaust.

Image

Here it is fitted.

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

New fuel filter as part of the inspection 2.

Image

Next up was to get the front panel on and sort out all the wiring.

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Getting there now :)

Image

Next to be done was to go over the wheel arches again, i did alot of work to them before i started doing all this to the car so they just needed a quick lick of hammerite and a bit of satin black.

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Now there looking like new again it was time to get my wheels looking factory fresh.

Here they are all masked up and ready to get some primer and paint on them.

Image

Image

Image

Painted.

Image

Image

Image

Image

Time to get some bits fired on to the car now.

Image

Got these cracking shadow line tailpipe tips, probably my favorite purchase of all the new bits.

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

It will be finished today, i cant even begin to describe how excited i am!! lol

Thanks mate. The code for the wheel silver is 513/B its an off the shelf silver from my paint supplier i do all my customers wheels this colour. The finish on my wheels are brighter than usual though because i have used a white primer on the wheels before basecoat silver and lacquer.

Heres a few more pics of the final stages of the build.

I gave the inner tailight panels a quick blast as they were pretty badly marked.

Image

Image

I then gave the boot carpet a good scrub and let it dry out in the sun.

Image

Once that had dried off i took a few pics of the rest of the boot before putting everything back in.

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

With the boot finished it was time to get more exterior parts on the car.

Image

Image

Image

Detailed the bay before refitting the bonnet.

Image

Image

Image

Image

Heres the finished product, looks ok in the pics but they honestly dont do the car justice. In the flesh it looks like its just been bought brand new from a bmw dealership back in 1991!!
