Well EWS all in...I say all in but really I mean most is in but ive managed to break the fooking antenna ring somehow
Do you think it might still transmit a signal or is it doomed?
It has a strand of wire poking out of the left side but non visible on the righthand side.
I have got another antenna ring from an M50 EWS kit but not a simple as plugging that in is it?

Not sure if the EWS ring from an M50 will work but another one from a similar age car will work. They are not unique to the set up like the EWS module, ley and DME.

Surely its only a fancy coil of wire? Im sure the m50 one would work. If it doesn't - borrow mine?

Ill try the M50 one in it.
Didnt bother trying to fire it up because of this but did swap the starter motor over for a known good one and it nows cranks over fine.

No luck with it starting.
Ive plugged the spare antenna in.
Double checked all EWS connections and all as should be.
Fuel pump primes as it should.
Has Switched 12v at Coil Green and Black/Yellow wires and also has switched 12v to both sides of injector plug.

Any ideas??

Oh I should have said that when I turn the ignition on the EWS module clicks and when switched off again the EWS modules clicks after around 20 seconds.
Does this mean the EWS is working fine but not getting a signal from the antenna or does the clicking mean it is getting the signal?

Yep, clicking means the antenna is working, the chip has been seen and the signal sent to the EWS module to close the relay

i would guess that the live you have taken for the violet/white connection that needs to be live when at acc, igntiion and when cranking is not actually live when cranking, alot of lives drop out under cranking. just connect the violet/white wire to a permenent 12v live to see if it fires

Seems to run ok.
Idles nicely and revs well.
Exhaust is surprisingly fairly quiet,I was expecting it to make a racket.
Still got to wire the leccy fan in and have a bit of a tidy up and ill be able to try it :D

Spent a couple of hours putting it back together today.
Glovebox and under dash all back in.
EWS antenna is just tucked under the dash for now untill I get time to dremmel the ignition shroud out like Dan has done.
Picked up a knackered diff tonight to rob the output shafts from so ill pop them in tomorrow then its drivable :D

Back on the road now :P
Well kind of anyway.
Still a couple of niggles to sort out.
Weld bracket on exhaust for rear beam mount.
Wire leccy fan through temp sensor.
Tracking as its miles out now.
Goes well enough but when I took it for a little test drive before it seems to breakdown onto 5 cylinders at low revs, dip clutch and blip the throttle and it clears so ill pick a set of plugs up at weekend.

Very poor quality vid here but will get something more viewable in daylight.

M52 box and 3.38 diff from a Compact.
will be replacing that soon for a 3.25 or 3.15 if I can find one.

Took it for steering alignment after work today and spent a couple of hours getting all the oily handmarks off it.
Still has the misfire soon as it starts to come upto temp though.
Changed the plugs to no effect so just gave up and washed it instead :P
Hopefully if I ask Monkey nicely he`ll put it on his laptop and see what codes are thrown up winkeye
Will check the crank sensor reading tomorrow anyway.

i had a similar issue with my m52 powered e36 touring, was indeed the crank sensor.

For a while mate but I get bored easilly so who knows :D

Matt popped over earlier and plugged his Carsoft into it which showed Lambda down on banks 1,2,3.
Just about to go and change it so fingers croosed for an easy fix!

Right ive swapped the lambda for one from a good running engine and its made no difference.
Does M52 fault code have to be wiped clear or would it overite itself?

i had my touring fault code read when it was playing up and it came up with MAF sensor................ changed this and it made no odds, changed the crank sensor and all was fine again. this was on the main dealer diagnostic and launch. me thinks the diagnostic on these things is not as comprehensive as it should be
