If only i could do that, they don't seem to want me to work from home either, gits!
Stipped out the old engine loom today ready for the later one to be fitted once it arrives, decided this is the way to go, will hopefully solve a few issues. While the engines got so much removed i'm going to renew all the old pipes along with all the little clips and brackets to make things a lot neater.
Is there anything you guys would recommend checking while the engine is this bare?

Made use of the last couple of dry days and got the cover off the chromie and got most of the engine back together.
I've replaced all the vacum pipes, water pipes, gaskets, o-rings, had the injectors refurbed, adjusted the valves, replaced all belts, given everything a good tidy up and got the facelift loom and ancillaries fitted. Oh and a lick of paint to the rocker cover and inlet manifold, might not be to everyones taste but had to do something different and it does good in the flesh, well i think so.
Just got to disect the ECU plug to get it through the bulkhead, refit the rad and main water pipes, fit my other ignition leads and get the AFM back on and then it'll be time to see if the thing will actually start, fingers crossed folks.

Right fellas, I have well and truely hit a brick wall with this car and motivation is at an all time low with all things car related as pretty much nothing has gone right since swapping the engine so this is a shout for a helping hand to get this back on track. Either someone that can come round and work some magic or fairly local I perhaps get the car over to just to get this running would be great.
I have fitted the later M20 loom but have since found out I need to add further wiring to the car but can't find any clarifiction where to run the extra wiring to so any information on this would be great.
Cheers
Dave

Well since Lee has been on a thread revival mission tonight i thought i'd have a flick through mine and dig it out.
Not touched the car since April/May time last year other than to move to my new home and shut it in the garage. Now i've got a few things out the way i reckon it'd about time to finish the loom swap and get a move on, had it out the garage the other day sorting through all my frag to see whats worth keeping and what wanted chucking and it's brought a little motivation back.
Had to take a quick pic of my driveway hogging action, really don't want anyone to move in next door

Didn't get round to touching this the other week but should have a couple of free days to tinker away this week. More i read about the wiring the more confused i seem to get

engine bay looks great, like the colourof the rocker and inlet manifold
good luck with the wiring

good luck with the wiring

Cheers Murphy!
Hooked up the rest of the wiring the other day as per the many threads i've read. Plugged the clocks in, connected the battery and turned the key . . . . .
.....Nothing, didn't even bring up any ignition lights on the clocks.
Spoke to Steve in the week and got a tip on something to check from the back of the ignition. Going to crack on with this once i'm back off shift in the week.
Going to try and give this a big puch this week and really hope to have it fired up by the end of the week, pretty pathetic it's taken me this long to get round to it.
Also hoping to fit the tank from the touring in the week and also get some proper BMW fuel lines instead of the temp plastic ones. Just waiting on a price from Cotswolds

A lot of hard work has gone into this motor,will be worth it in the end

They don't make bm's like this anymore!..They should.

Well there's a nice little update today
, and you can all have chuckle at my deliberate mistake since changing looms
After the lack of action when i turned the key last week a pushed the car outside for some proper light, the garage really needs some strip lights as it just isn't bright enough in there!
Check all the earthing wires in the car as Steve advised last week and all looked fine Then it occured to me that i need to be checking whether power is getting to/through the fuse box. Then there is was, the power feed cable was stuffed down by the brake servo
.
Connected the cable to the battery and there was life, dials lit up and the ICV was buzzing it's tits off. Engine turned over fine but again was no sign of it firing up, checked the fuel pump had power, nice healthy 12.8v. Plugged the pump back in and kept turning it over and this happened about 15 seconds later,

Sounds rough but then thats just running with the BTB2 on, no exhuast!
Got to prep the tourings tank and get that fitted, genuine fuels lines are on order as well. Got some wiring to tidy up now i know it's all connected correctly and then i can go about getting it booked in for the paintwork (better get saving now).
Just got a couple of questions, am i right in thinking that i will need an AFM from facelift M20B25 as i'm still running the prefacelift one. Also the tourings tank has an extra sender unit, how do i go about wiring this in?
Oh and has anyone got an as new header tank they can spare?

At last !!!
, bet your relieved now Dave.......

Oh just a tad Paul
, thing is now i've got to start spending moeny on it
Hoping to have a facelift AFM on it later today, had it confirmed that i well need one by m_jermyn, can cause all kinds of running issues, his wouldn't even tickover with the old AFM. Mine just sounds like it's missing.

Started cracking on with a job i've really not been looking forward to, changing the tank since the old one won't be fitted with a swirl pot and i've been strongly advised i need one with the 2.5. Lucking the tank that came of the touring is nice and solid despite a typical dent in the bottom so with some prep & paint will be going on.
All i got done today was getting the old tank out which went pretty well, no rusty/seized up nuts & bolts on this car
While the tank is out i took a few pics of the underneath, only signs of rust is on various mounting points, bar 2 scabs high on the transmission tunnel which i think should just sand down fine;

So once i've cleaned all the muck off how do you lot recommend i go about protecting the underside before the tank goes back in?
Also braved removing the problomatic fuel breather pipe cover, was some surfice rust on and inside the cover but the inner wing is just fine, again just needs cleaning and some waxoyl on it maybe?

Got a pair of brand new fuel line ready to go on as well, and a couple of other goodies hopefully enroute very soon.
Oh and also have an E36 steering rack robbed from my mates 325TD he's stripping so will be trial fitting that with the BTB2 and Dans steering linkage, hoping that linkage will have enough clearance and save me the hassle and expense of a BTB3.

Not done any spannering since my last update but have been collecting a few more bits ready to get going with over the next couple of weeks;
Pair of new fuel lines;

One of Dans sterring linkages and a new header tank all the way from the states

New prop doughnut, E36 track rod ends and Dans custom steering pipes;

New petrol tank, decided this was a better option than spending lots of sad time refurbing my dented tank (paint it black or not??);

Finally for once it's ready for the road something nice to hold on to
