as to the spline being small, thats not the case, even if you tighten the nut to its maximum does the steering wheel still feel lose? thats because you have not put a washer on the spline first. i was in the situation, you can hardly tell its there as it a specific washer just for that,
put that on then put the wheel on, then the other washer and nut, job done
