Looks like a neat job, but why does everyone who has their M3 resprayed never remove body bungs which are not meant to be body colour?
After all that effort and so many coats there is no way you can replace that bung without havingmore paint done.

But, to my horror, not a soul could find them on the system except when I went into Dick Lovetts in Swindon to pick up some parts for work, a 16yr old school leaver found them straight away, I could have not just kissed him but....

Great job Gary, won't be long before your driving it.Mine is a long long way off being finished.Cannot tell by the pictures did you take the back window out.I'm a bit concerned about taking the back window out because of the plasitic gromits that seem the hold the window level at the bottom if you know what I mean.If you mask round them what the finish will be like. Those bungs in the corner of the windows can't seem to get them or the part number from the dealer,is that why you left them in did you have the same problem?
Really like the interior it suits the car.
If anyone knows the part number for those gromits please let me know.
Cannot wait to see it finished, keep up the good work.
Roy

mate.. i just masked round my screens and honestly it was the biggest mistake i made..doesnt look good up close like..If you mask round them what the finish will be like
i was warned by a zoner and chose to ignore his advise..wish i had listened now
when you coming out to play gary? we have a retro meet soon.. http://www.freepowerboards.com/retrobmw ... f=28&t=182 (sorry mods, shameless plug there)
With regards to the gromets on the C pillar, I didn't think it that important. You only see tham when the boot is up.
I did take the rear widow out and it was a bit of a pain to remaove but that was down to the windscreen man not me. The gromets on the back screen are just held in by the pressure of the rear window. Once the window is removed from the sealnt then they just fall out, well they did on mine.
gra, I'm hoping to have it on the road for 01/06/08 I have been a busy wee bee again.
Upon moving my windscreen it bloody broke. All that time in the garage and now it breaks

So I went and put in my quarter light windows and the passanger door bulit up and window in.

Then the window man came up with a new one and fitted both front and rear

Then yesterday i was back down at the paint shop getting the sill covers painted.

It took about 2.5 ltrs I think for the 4 coates of base, and 2ltrs for the laquer. I'm really pleased with the out come.
The new bonnet is on and has been flattened and polished and looks really good.

Its getting nearer the finishing line.
The bonnets painted

Along with the sunroof lid

Then the bumpers were prepped on Friday

Then it was a late one on Saturday to paint them, but they look the mutts muts now
Front and rear bumpers primed

Then painted

And finally the obligitory four coats of laquer

And then a six our shift fitting the wings, door, sunroof and bumpers and adjusting them up.
It's beginning to look like a car once again

It is mate. But i don't know about hard work. He thinks manual labour is a Spanish waiter
Well its was a mental Saturday that started at 7am and finished at 03:30hrs on the Sunday morning. Why the long hours I hear you ask.
Well I will tell you, so that I could have the car ready for the show and shine competition that the car club were running.
I got up at 07:30hrs so that i could put the rear spoiler on that had just been painted not 5 hours ago. I had to put the front grills on rear M3 badge airducts and front towing eye covers.
Enough of my rantings. It is fianlly finished.
Here are a few pics when I washed it this evening all put together.

Try "scoobydougie" at http://www.dgmotor-photos.com , you may remember him from the Callendar show last year.
Yeah mate thought about another one but will need to see if I have enough money
It certainly does. Half way through the project I thought about throwing in the towel, but I'm glad I persevered
Gary really great job, what an undertaking , full marks mate . Not only have you made a great job of the car , but to provide such a detailed account along with the the action packed pictures , what can I say , just true dedication mate . I note your comment about never doing it again , but somehow dought you will be able to resist the temptation if it should arrive . I gess you will be spending some time just enjoying you work a be driving it about with a great big smile on your face .
