To be fair, everybody's view of metrics is based on tyres that are probably ten years old.Simon13 wrote:he wouldn't move away from the bloody thing. I told him he was bloody mad spending ££££ on those sh!t metric tyres for his M6. "but they're original" i said but they're crap.
He's really spoiling the car with them but each to their own.
Have you driven an E24 on 415 TRXs that are new - and I mean new, as in manufactured within the last year? Most TRXs, no matter how good they look are actually old tyres - even new ones are most often old stock.
They harden badly with age and become utterly crap, but a brand newly manufactured set is probably the best tyre for an E24. They're a great combination of ride and roadholding - good enough for Ferrari and XJ12s too. It's just that it's very hard to justify £300 per corner when their performance drops so severely from "brilliant" to "crap" after two years even if you've only done 500 miles.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that everybody should be using them, but they are unfairly maligned as shite, when they are really good tyres - for a few months. They're certainly not ruining his car. They're enhancing it - for now - he'll need to buy new in two years again, probably won't and then it's downhill.
