Hi Guys,

Can someone help me with a detailed list of how to dismantle the front and rear bumpers and electric mirrors on my cab so I can paint them please?

Thanks,
BSingh.

do you want to dismantle the bumpers or just remove them? to remove there are (normally) two T55 torx sockets visible from under the bumpers. loosen them and pull the whole bumper straight off, then once you can reach behind disconnect the indicators, once removed the plastic centre trim can be prised off with a screwdrive, but you normally will break the clips, personally i would spend the time masking but here is some help with how it goes together...

http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do ... g=51&fg=15

the mirrors are removed by prising the panel off inside the door (the plastic triangular panel indside the car), you can see the mouting bolt, remove and unplug the wires. to remove the glass look from underneath the mirror and you will see a small hole, using a long flat srewdriver push through the hole and you will find a plastic ring, it should be rotated to the side and the mirror glass will ''unlock'' you can see the ring by pushing the mirror so that you can see in between the bottom of the mirror and the housing (in fact you can actually remove it in this position)

part 10 is the ring i refer to:

again you are better off masking at this point than diassembling any further for a spray job.

good luck

I found the torx bolts seized on my rear so undid the 4 13mm nuts from the bumper mounting plates. One of the o/s nuts is accessible from inside the car after lifting a section of the boot lining. I had to cut down a 13mm ring spanner to undo one of the n/s nuts as no room for a ratchet and the top of the exhaust fouled the spanner.

Sorry, I meant removing them from the vehicle...

Is it the same procedure (apart from the indicators) for the back bumper?

Does the plastic centre piece on the bumper need to be removed? If I do manage to break it where can I get a spare (just in case)!

Thanks for your help guys, much appreciated :)
