possible overheating

Hi all. I have recently 'chipped' my 88' 325 cab. I've noticed now that the engine seems to be running hotter. Infact, pulled over to use the phone, kept the engine running and noticed the needle climbing. Hadn't stopped and I think it would have gone into the red, had I not drove off. Went back down to just under half within minutes when driving. No problem in traffic (so far!) Could the chip change and temp rise be related. It's not a zone chip, it's one off of E-bay (from Germany). Idle is very smoothand power feels up. Mines a sw/auto.

If the car is running lean it could make it run hotter
Try changing it back and see what happens?
It could be coincidence and the viscous fan is worn.
