ok well i have a 87 tech 1 its in ok nick but there is a very strange noise coming from the front of the engine i thought it was the fan rubbing against the rad but its not im pretty sure its a warn bearing.... it only happens when the engine get to running temp. cam belt tensioner mayb?
has it happened to any one here?

Yes, had a strange noise from the front of the engine on both an '88 E34 535iSE and '89 325i Sport, both turned out to be worn water pump. A test is to waggle the fan from side to side - any play indicates wear.
I also had metal filings sprayed over the engine bay with the E34's
If it turns out to be water pump, BMW offer around £13 back for the old one (even a pattern part) when you buy a new one from them.
