I recently noticed the overflow pipe at the top of the petrol tank was leaking.

See: http://www.e30zone.net/modules.php?name ... ic&t=94537

Rather than paying £20 for a new length of pipe from BMW, I disconnected the pipe from the tank, cut an inch off where the pipe was frayed and secured it back on with a new clip. There is quite a fair bit of slack in the pipe so it's quite comfortable, even though it's an inch shorter.

Bodge 8) or bodge  ?

Strangely enough,I trimmed the one on both of my cars as well.....must be a proper bodger... When I first bought the Daimler I discovered that it had a disconcerting habit of letting it's brake servo fail, usualy on the approach to the rearend of a very expensive car. Traced it to a frayed end of pipe on the manifold take of to the servo. You will have guessed by now how it was fixed....

Sounds like the best type of bodge - one that's worked and hasn't cost you anything !! :D

Yeh I replaced a small vacuum hose with a part of a bigger broken vacuum hose but it wasn't cracked...If it's cracked it won't last long.
