Hi Guys,

I've got a '91 325 tourer that blew it's head, so spent a lovely weekend stripping and replacing the head gasket, along the way realising i'm incredibly lucky, the cam belt was cracked already and broke whilst taking it off! shocking! :-s

Anyways, new water pump, filters, all replaced, gave her a 2hr run back up the M4 home and she drove lovely, as i came off the oil light on the dash not the check panel came on. It appears to fade the more revs, tho i was very gingerly driving the mile back to my house

Had a quick look last night in the dark and the oil level is ok, i've noticed a little leak from the oil filter, but was wondering if you have any ideas with what to check, the wire for the sensor isn't in great nick so will be tidying that up this weekend, but what else should i be checking?

Cheers

Stu

Erm.... with it dimming with engine revs like that i dont think its going to be your wire to the pressure sensor
(you do realise that is the oil pressure warning light and you should not drive at all with it on) and more likely to be your oil pump on the way out or similar.... maybe a blocked oil way? someone with more experience will back me up on that

Yeh, i figured it wasn't great news, it was about a mile with the oil light coming on and off, she hasn't been driven since! what's the easiest way to check whether there's any blockages and that the pumps working ok?

Worth checking the wire in the engine bay going to the sensor. Mine melted on my exhaust manifold causing the light to come on

Hopefully you've not dressed the wire properly around the front of the cam belt cover, and it's either wearing through on the water pump pulley, or has cracked insulation and is shorting to engine metalwork somewhere.
