The annoying red `motor oil' light has come on on my 320iS :( . The engine is sweet and the levels are too :) . So i presume i have a wiring fault if there is no way of switching the damn thing off :? . It came on after i had cleaned the heater fan motor out and lubricated the bearings. I've cleaned the sump connection, the 3 plugs on the bulkhead and the pins in the big loom connection on the bulkhead - still no joy........Any ideas?
Thanks
John

this happened to me first with the check light oil sensor then the engine oil sensor light.

check light was caused by the oil sensor in the sump simply giving up i think it just gets stuck in a postion, I too checked all connections first but in the end had to replace with another one.
oil pressure light was caused by corroded wire earthing of of the block.

if it id the service light and you have a later car. you need to join pin 7 and 19 with the engion off. turn the ignition on and the light should go of. after the light has gon of turn the ignition of. if you leave the ignition on to long you will totaley reset the survice light. :D

Roof check light panel does not have the slightest connection with resetting the service indicator lights!
Take the sensor out and dip it repeatedly in a baked bean can of petrol.
Not a guaranteed fix, but it works sometimes.

checked all the connections again, tried another sump sender and did a reset for good measure - still no joy :(
i think i'll have to get a wiring diagram now, i must have disturbed something on the bulkhead when i cured the squelling heater motor :?

The S14 motor has no sender for oil level. So if you have a 320iS and it has the original engine, then it should also have a check panel (probably in Potugeuse or Italian) that has no oil check light.

If you have an S14 and a panel in english WITH a oil check light, then someone has put that panel in form a UK car (which will have a oil check light) or it may be in english and will be from a UK supplied M3.

Sorry, i've had three 320iS's directly from italy no other owners, all have had an oil sender bolted in the underside of the sump, the check panel is as original too....in italian.
i'd check your information source.

Maybe the 320is is different, but the M3 doesn't have an oil check light.
