Any ideas?

Just been and picked up a 316i I bought off Ebay recently. Its been stood in a barn around 2 years.I was going to put the engine out of it into mine,as mine sounds like a London Taxi!
I got it running today and it sounds sweet,no tapping or smoke etc.
After cleaning off all the cobwebs and giving it a quick wash,i was surprised to see how good it really is,and now its got me thinking it to good to break!Hardly any rust on the body, wheel arches sunroof panel, bottoms of front wings(basically all the places of rust on my car)are mint on this one.It has got a few marks here and there but they look like they might polish out, also paint is starting to lift on the top of the drivers door. Its Metallic Black,2 dr,G reg.
Problem is the clutch has seized open!I pushed the clutch pedal down and thats where its stuck, pedal just flopping around!
Any ideas on freeing it without taking out the box?
I was thinking about taking out the starter motor and using a hammer and block of wood to hit the flywheel, obviously turning the engine at intervals! :?
Any other suggestions?

What I would suggest mate, to save whipping the lump & box out, is to get underneathe and take the clutch slave cylinder off the gearbox. It could be this or the clutchmaster cyl. If you want to keep it you could take the slave off you'r other one to get it going and take it from there.
Thats assuming the slave is the problem, ie it has siezed, if the release arm/bearing has siezed then you need to split the engine and box to sort it, however I would suspect the huydraulics first if it has been sitting in a barn.

Hydraulics is definately an option i will obviously check these first, althought when i pressed the pedal, this may sound strange  it felt like it was actually doing something, although very very tight, this makes me think it maybe the release bearing on the main shaft?
Though about spraying sh1t loads of WD40 in there, but then the clutch will slip like crazy!

Ah! Just thought, carb cleaner maybe? :?

Try putting it in 4th gear, standing on the footbrake and turning the key with the clutch pedal pressed.
More drastic is to block the rear end up on axle stands, start the engine with the car in 4th and then press the brake pedal with the clutch pedal down. Don't have anyone standing in front of the car if you do this.

can you drive the car from where its standing?

put in first and start car (make sure road is clear ahead LOL) hold clutch pedal down and accelerate sharply it should free up

its worked for me many times on a few cars over the years.

i remember few years back the slave cyl went on my 320i in supermarket car park i waited till it was less busy and started car in first and drove it home through the gears no probs just made sure the revs were right

Ah, clutch is jambed open. First, examine the clutch slave cylinder to see if that's the problem, and if it is then carefully unbolt it, (there will be quite a lot of pressure on the nuts as you unscrew them).
If the slave retracts OK, then I think it's a gearbox out job.

sounds like its more of a hydralic problem than the actual friction plate stuck to the flywheel,as A1325i said, try changing the slave and maybe the master cylinder and see if that works? if not then i think its box out time!!!
