I have just purchased an E30 touring but it happens to be one of the very late ones, L reg to be precise!!! I intend to put the 325 engine from my recently wrote off e30 in asap.

I have some concerns however about the CAT. Does any one know the lwa regarding these because i reckon that i will have to fit one for it to pass the MOT. Is this a correct assumption? i believe that from 1993 or 4 all cars had to have a CAT fitted.

Cheers

I can't remember the year this law came into effect.

The car doesn't have to actaully have a cat, but it must pass the emissions test which is quite hard without one.

I can't remember the exact specs for cat equiped cars but it is low.

Are you having problems with the cat?

There was a thread about this problem a while back.

Solution was:

1) Buy MOT tester pint
2) Say "Will you ignore the absence of a cat on my '93 touring?"

:D

Problem will arise when the new computerised MOT system gets going (if ever).
You'll have to fit a cat and appropriate ECU, or go for an LPG conversion.
( 7p per mile on a 325 ).
