central locking
Moderator: martauto
The cold weather has disabled it. Can someone help me, I don't know where the central locking control unit lives. Also, any common faults. The rear drivers door went first then the main drivers door and it all went down. Also the rear passenger door will no longer open. I cannot unlock it on the door peg or handles. Does the child lock switch cause this if the central locking has failed?

The locking ECU lives inside the sill, below the loudspeaker in the driver's footwell, and there are two common faults.
1/ The sill drains get blocked, and the sills flood with water from the sunroof drains, flooding the locking ECU. This usually has the unfortunate side effect of activating and burning out all the deadlock motors.
2/The most common C/L fault involves the supply to the ECU. Use the search function to look for "red AND black" and my username, but select an older post, as all the recent ones are me telling people to use the search function!
Child lock function does not connect to the central locking.

that makes sense, it all happened after the last deluge, compounded by this freeze.
I'm not sure why the one door is locked solid though. I assume I will be able to make it release if I get my hand inside. Not sure what to pull and if I need to take antyhing out.

I'm going for the full colour set of tourings. I have red, black, two shades of green, silver and blue so far!
One screw secures the speaker panel, then three more to release the speaker. Underneath the speaker there should be a plastic shield which just lifts out, but can be a bit tricky to get out.
Directly under the centre of the speaker hole there are two cross head screws on the inner sill. Remove these and pull the locking ECU out by its wires, complete with its mounting bracket.

In the articles section there is a guide to repairing a common fault on the central locking ECU.This helped me fix mine recently.
Youth is wasted on the young.
If you come across a red automatic touring with no rust, then think of me, I won't be able to drive a gearbox forever, MS is vicious on that score, so I am seeking an auto as an alternative. Then I can transfer all my new bits and stay mobile with style. The motability system doen't cater for beemer nuts.

Tourings go on way after H reg. Plenty of L reg ones around, (green one in my sig. is). There's even rumours of a few M reg ones about.

Early '91 was when the last 320s were produced, so you won't see many after 'H'.
