i'm just about out of ideas with my 320i, it hunts really badly sometimes but i seems to be at random.
its had a new idol speed control valve and all new pipes to the inlet manifold. a friend told me to squirt brake cleaner over the inlet manifold and guasket when its hunting to see if it helps to find a leek, but it only hunts when cold when i have no time to do it (sods law), and i don't want to do it when its hot as i like my car in its non chard state.
any ideas.
random hunting

I researched this. It was a common fault when the cars were new too. I reckon the Airflow meter is unreliable at low revs, and with effects of age, oxidised connectors and/or spurious leaks, and BMW garages setting the car up to run rich, it is sonething to live with.
I haven't tried the MAF airflow meters but they seem plausible for solvinbg it.
It seems to be common to all these cars though. never found one without it to some degree.
